Dog Training Programs for PD
I purchased
I purchased a purebred English labrador puppy, When he was one year old I had him trained by a private trainer, Rod sparkovitch of Ellsworth Maine, to be a mobility support Service dog. He has been wonderful he is nine years old now still strong and healthy
that is great! does he do any parkinson's specific things? I am told that you can train the dog to give cues for freezing.
He had a custom-made harness which I used do use him instead of a cane or walker. He knew the commander stand in brace for well I need help with my balance or wheb I needed to call myself up using him. He receives Alex for me so that I don’t have to bend over and pick them up from the floor I have trouble with my balance. He accompanied me on the 2018 Parkinsons move it walk fundraiser in Charlotte North Carolina our team is seeking him raise several thousand dollars for Parkinson’s research he flew on airplanes with me he slept between my feet in the seat in the front that was a few years ago he’s gained weight since. But due to having top-notch breeders he hasn’t had any health issues and he is a strong healthy nine-year-old male yellow lab with several more years to enjoy. I paid $1000 for him nine years ago to Wassookeag Retrievers in despise me they raise labradors mostly for hunting dogs and family dogs Coleman’s father was a champion
Sporting ldog at 10 months old.
English labs have the perfect disposition for a service dog. I spent about $1500-$2000 for private training lessons. Rod sparkovitch has lots of experience training police dogs, service dogs therapy dogs, whatever you need. My Late husband belong to the Coleman collectors of America
So I named my yellow lab “ Wasaukeeg’s sunshine of the night called: Coleman.” He is the light of my life night and day
What do you want the dog to do?
Haven't heard of any. What would they sense?
I have a service dog that pesters me to take my meds. She will not relent until she sees pills go in my mouth. I spend much time alone so this has saved me forgetting my doses (5 x per day). Particularly helpful in public because I can't hear the alarms in a busy environment. Before my dog helper I would frequently hear my med alarm then forget to take the meds anyhow...Has spared me many times the missed dose crash!
I trained her. I feel any credible trainer could achieve that training.
I trained my dog to brace for me getting up from a chair or couch and she helps with walking and balance.
