Dr. Helene Langevin explains the importance of connective tissue in the body and its link to the immune system. She talks about recent findings on the effects of stretching on inflammation and fibrosis and the relevance of these findings to chronic pain and cancer.
My understanding is that the common denominator to all techniques is mindful breathing : no efficient Yoga, Qigong, Acupressure, Massage, Stretching, LSV, etc. without it.
And no rigid rules here: one can do it with fun and why not work out one's own "system": e.g. doing LSV the Qigong slow way of moving and rythmically breathing like the ebb and flow at the seaside.
I love Dr Langevin. Reducing systemic inflammation should be beneficial to most age-related diseases, including neurodegenerative diseases. Stretching increases production of resolvins which act to shut down inflammation; resolvins are produced from omega 3 fatty acids.
I have been looking into the MELT method - there's lots of study of the importance of the fascia and this lady is all about that. It's too early to say but I've got the hand/foot exercise balls and they seem to help with stiffness if nothing else! I think it's all connected and do plenty of yoga etc too. Parkinsons is mentioned specifically in the exercise booklet which came with my little kit. The good thing is that it's 5-10 mins max so can be added to an exercise regimen relatively easily.meltmethod.com/about/
