Hiccups

My husband gets hiccups randomly. He was diagnosed in 2009, recently we changed our doctor to avoid a long drive. Our doctor in Ann Arbor is outstanding, feel bad to move. But age makes long drives tiring. The doctor we moved to did not even see him when severe side effects set in with change in meds. Could this be a part of side effects? Is there any treatment or supplements that can help him?

His appetite has been further affected too.

Any help from you all will greatly help. God bless you all for the useful info you share.

We now have another neurologist, recommended by our original neurologist, very dynamic and receptive. We hope he will help my husband to the point where he eas before the first change.

How do you expect us to attempt to answer your question without knowing what meds are involved?

In terms of just trying to stop the hiccups as opposed to fixing any potential cause or health issue behind it, I have had good success with using the thumb and forefinger/index finger to form a "C", place the opening of the C around each side of the Adam's apple and squeeze lightly with the tips of the thumb and index finger for about thirty or forty seconds. It may take a little practice to find the correct height to place the index finger and thumb in relation to the Adam's apple, but I have found this method to work when other methods did not. It is the most reliable hiccup stopper I am aware of. The other plus is that you can do it anytime and anywhere, unlike other remedies that require sugar or bending over or other such motions.
