I'm pretty sure I could do a condensed version in 8 1/2 pages, Marc!!!

Better watch out for oxalates and kidney issues. Rotate your greens.

Would you elaborate?

All greens have small amount of toxins that build up over time so if you don't regularly "rotate" and eat different types of greens, if will affect your health negatively. Kales, chards, and spinach are especially notorious for this especially with very high oxalates and goitrogens that affect thyroid functions. It's better to keep your smoothie ingredients simple and alternate as much as possible.

I made the mistake about a decade ago and learned not to overdo with what seemed to be "healthy" green smoothies. Everything in moderation.

Thanks again. Who knew?

Oh it goes further - there'a also a problem with high purine foods when you start cutting out carbs and go heavier with seafoods, meat, and seemingly healthy vegs such as asparagus, artichokes, cauliflower, beans, etc. Then all of sudden you start experiencing the 'rich man's disease" aka gout. Levodopa can also exacerbate the issue. Best to avoid any extremes, and always try for organics.

Thanks for bringing this up, rescuema. I thought the issue for negatively affecting thyroid function was with consuming RAW spinach, kale, and brassicas in general. Is cooked kale, chard, etc. just as bad?

Raw is worse but cooked doesn't make it much better for oxalates. Boiling (and throwing out water) lessens the issue slightly but goitrogens can be reduced by about 2/3 when fully cooked. Avoid eating any one thing or a family of veg too often or you will experience problem especially as you get older. Supplement iodine with Lugol's - I put it in my coffee almost every morning (skip a few days a week) especially since I only use unrefined sea salt (not iodized).

Collagen may be good or bad:

Collagen and mood

As you’ll recall, collagen is missing the essential amino acid tryptophan. Tryptophan is a precursor to serotonin, a neurotransmitter that is responsible for—in addition many other important brain functions such as memory and learning—feelings of happiness and contentment. Ingesting collagen as your main form of protein can potentially lead to a deficit in tryptophan. A decrease in tryptophan results in lower serotonin levels and has the potential to cause feelings of anxiety, irritability, and depression (particularly if you already suffer from a mood disorder.)”

Eases Anxiety – Who doesn’t experience some anxiety from time to time? But if stress and anxiety become chronic, it can seriously affect our daily lives. Guess what? Glycine is also an inhibitory neurotransmitter, which means that it’s a natural way to calm the brain and create balance.

Improves Mood – This might go without saying, but when you feel better, you are better. Collagen has been scientifically linked to a wide range of granular benefits, the overall result of which is a boost in quality of life.
