When i eat a large meal my meds stop working. The meal can consist of any thing i eat in any combination of protein, sweet or vegetable. If i eat till i feel the food in my belly i will pay the price.
And what is the price.
Today it was a 5 hour down time. It was a horrible 6 hours i had bad pain in my arms, hands, legs and feet. I was stiff and could only walk few steps at a time. I got depressed and mad. I even had muscle spasms. When i am off like this i sometimes yell out in a strange language that makes no sense and i did it today. I can stop the things i do during this off time if i try real hard. But only for 1 or 2 minutes then back i go.
This is the timeline of the events that caused it today.
1:00 pm took meds
3:30 pm ate my meal. Consisting of Timbale 1 large helping (see list for the ingredients) salad with Italian dressing and 1 small roll and water.
4:00 pm started to feel bad.
4:30 pm take 2 25/100 Carbadopa/levadopa (not a regular dose just extra to get me back on track) Did not work.
7:00 pm took regular dose of meds. 3 25/100 c/l and 1 50/200 c/l ext release.
This recipe used many ingredients. Maybe something simple would be better with the medication. I'm just going by how I would feel after eating that recipe. This is just an idea,
Thanks for the reply. But I don't think the ingredients had any thing to do with the way i reacted to the meal. I have ate simple meals and have had the same problem. It is just how much i eat at one time i could eat this meal over a couple of hours and would do fine. I do this a couple times a month and regret it every time and swear i will never do it again.
The same goes for me Bailey, doesn't matter what kind of food,if its too much I pay the price, my meds do not kick in, even if I take a "rescue dose" it doesn't help, I just have to wait it out. Wish there was a quick way to get some qyick relief, because the salad you had sounds delish!
You may have gastro paresis and a large meal just sits in your digestive system and prevents absorption of the meds. The meal you had also had cheese that my have interfered also.
if it was me, i wouldve been a mess too. in order not to be a mess, i wouldve done the following ---
taken my regular med dose (or at least a 1/2 extra dose, which would probably be better) between 2:45 - 3:00
eliminate these items from the meal--- bacon (i know, i know, thats the best part of the salad) mozzerella cheese parmesan cheese
had a very small portion size of pasta
you wouldve probably been ok until your regular dose at 7:00, or even if you needed it like at 6:00, it would probably have worked; it wouldve been a couple hours since you finished your meal.
as far as a "rescue dose" (that was a good way to describe it) - they dont work with all that protein and a full belly. i find that if i can anticipate a problem ahead of time, i can take a rescue dose (or 1/2 dose, which is usually enough) before the meal. the extra sinemet will usually give me a little more time until i need my next dose. but i still wouldnt over do it. i may add a little more pasta & parmesan, but that bacon & mozzerella would still have to go.
probably the best thing to do (if you had a choice) would be to eat this kind of meal, and as much as you want, late in the day, about 30 - 45 before your last dose of sinemet, and then just go to bed early.
i had a piece of carrot cake yesterday at lunch, which made the meal bigger, and along with the cream cheese frosting, caused me to have "off" time thru my next sinemet dose until the one after that. and i know its gonna happen, but i feel good at the time, and get greedy, and dont want to wait until later for the "bad food". so i eat it, and pay the price.
for the most part, i am good, and eat fruits and vegies with a small amount of carbs and no protein at breakfast and lunch. then i pig out at dinner, lots of protein and lots of food (and im still only 100#). and then i go to bed early before my next dose is due.
I have just written the same thing !!! Then I saw your story, I totally agree, yesterday I had bacon and egg with an outtake, and by 10.00 am two hours later I was switched off at the mains for three hours in agony.
Little and often, with fruit and little protein is the best, and same with mood , do not fill your belly! Especially if you want sex, which is fine if you are on the best of your switched on and' turned on' cycle, coupled with 50 mg of the little blue chap, then all is well for a while!
