Not for me personally. How about your husband?

That said, I minimize my sugar consumption because of other adverse effects.

I went on a no sugar no flour diet in June and although I lost 23 lbs in about 10 weeks, no real noticeable symptoms changes, but I have rather mild symptoms in general.

I thought this might’ve been a great part of your recent symptom relief which included the levodopa from mucuna which nutrivita makes and the meditation , etc. I’m very interested in giving your protocol a test run and feel that a key part is sugar and flour fast.

Ernie, it’s so difficult to be sure, but it’s true the diet or something had positive affects on my digestive system which is behaving more normal then ever. The movement and moisture are all there, wish I could find the proper words @parkbear uses. I tend to think the meditation is responsible for most of my symptom relief and reversal, but I’m sure the diet didn’t hurt either.

My husband does well with sugar but doesn't use much table sugar.

He gets sugar from fruits mostly. Orange juice at breakfast and a fruit smoothie later for example. There is table sugar in his store-bought sourdough rolls, along with a lot of junk. (I'd been making sourdough bread for him, but haven't managed that lately.)

He's had no increase in tremors but his are mild too.

Hi, my husband has no problem with fruit either which we are thankful for. He tried a bite size candy and that is when he noticed the tremors increasing.

Hi ssrs

I wonder what part of that candy affected him. My husband eats Lindt 90% cocoa dark chocolate. It takes him about 2 months to eat one of those.

But he does eat just one square at a time and I haven't asked if he noticed his tremor increased after. They contain chocolate, cocoa butter , cocoa powder, sugar, vanilla beans.

What was the name of that French woman who lived to 122 or something? She said she ate 2 pounds of chocolate a week. Not that that proves it's healthy but she did well.

It's more than possible to get tremors from the coloring and artificial sweeteners in the candy.

Sugar is bad news, whether or not sugar consumption increases tremors for PWP. Sugar is bad news for all of us and that includes those who don’t have Parkinson Disease.

And sugar includes refined carbohydrates (packaged foods), soda pop and packaged fruit juices.

As to why it is bad news here is a one and a half hour rant on the dangers of sugar. It’s long but has 11 million views, so why not join the crowd and take a look: Robert Lustig -Sugar The Bitter Truth

And here is a tight short version from the YouTube channel ‘What I’ve Learned’: ‘Why sugar is as bad as Alcohol’. It’s a distillation of Lustig’s rant in fifteen (15) minutes.

And for those who think it onerous to do the research here is the unvarnished truth in summary form, from Dr. Jason Fung.

📌’Every organ suffers the long term effects of the excessive sugar load. Your eyes rot — and you go blind. Your kidneys rot — and you need dialysis. You heart rots — and you get heart attacks and heart failure. Your brain rots — and you get Alzheimers disease. Your liver rots — and you get fatty liver disease. Your nerves rot — and you get diabetic neuropathy. No part of your body is spared.’

I think a really bad diet will accelerate progression in some people, (but not all people) and sugar, as has been pointed out by the above comments, is perhaps the worst thing one can ingest. Why take the chance?

Exactly, he said he will definitely stay away from sugar after this.

So glad to hear that your spouse will stay clear of sugar. Do have him do a Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) test for Diabetes. He may well be pre-diabetic.

So try alternative sweeteners - mannitol, trehalose and xylitol.

And do note low sugar consumption would exclude refined carbohydrates (packaged foods), soda pop and packaged fruit juices from the diet.

To make a long story short, my spouse, the PWP, is pre-diabetic and shakes if her sugar intake is high 😱

Yes, thank you for the reminder of those as well. He doesn’t drink soda pop or the fruit juices. We are definitely reducing the refined carbs as well.
