Dysfunction of the cholinergic systems in PD is thought to possibly play a contributory role in postural instability and cognitive impairment. Therefore, modulation of cholinergic transmission could improve balance and cognition in these patients.
Vitamin B12 is lower in patients with PD compared with controls, and low levels have been associated with peripheral neuropathy, cognitive impairment, and more rapid rate of disease progression in PD.
My husband wasn't able to absorb Vit B and takes a Vit B pill with B12 and more. However, I don't fully understand the article. Will require looking up a lot of medical terms. Appears to be a good informative article which I will read. Thanks.
Many people have methylation issues which is sometimes genetic. I'm not familiar with how to get around that but I do know it's important to get methyl B12, methylcobalamin.
Methylation problems occur most often with those of English/Irish heritage. We both thought we were of German/French heritage. We had our genes tested, and we are English/Irish. We have taken methyl B12 and folate for years.
My husband uses Bio-Alternatives Vitamin B12. It's a liquid 100% methylcobalamine that you put under your tongue. He says it doesn't taste bad. 1/2 dropper is 1000mg B12.
B12 is near and dear to my heart, I was so low in B12 that I developed a severe case of paresthesias, and that was the year before being diagnosed with PD.
