I think there may be a link between psoriasis and PD. My husband was recently diagnosed with PD. He also has developed some itchy scaley areas on his scalp at the same time as an increased tremor in his hand/arm and slowness of movement. There is thought being given to PD being an autoimmune disease. Psoriasis is also an autoimmune condition. Perhaps both are the body's way of reacting to chronic inflammation? And if you look at PD through the lens of functional medicine that the root cause is your body reacting to "something" by creating chronic inflammation and how that inflammation manifests and rises to the surface can be more than one thing... perhaps this is something to consider?

I have some of the same condition. I think you are right. I recently read someones post here about cruciferous vegetables for inflammation and going to try it.

Many things can cause inflammation in the body, I have been on a determined course to reduce my inflammation. Foods that we are sensitive to like wheat, sugar, dairy, eggs, toxins in our food, personal care products, and surroundings including air, cleaning products, pharmaceutical adverse reactions. Foods that are high on the ORAC scale are very helpful, clove is one and I use clove essential oil daily, green tea, curcumin, ginger, glucosamine are but a few things that can help curb inflammation. Your Dr can run a CRP test to see what your inflammation is at. My Dr. likens inflammation to the brain being on fire since it effects the brain in a very bad way.

Parkinson sometimes causes skin anomalies. My neurologist prescribed Ketoconazole cream

at the time of diagnosis. Can't say it's ever done much good, though.

No, I'm not in the wrong place. I have PD and I'm trying to figure out if this is just another Pd thing.

You need to see a dermatologist to get a diagnosis. I developed eczema recently; it was/is really bad, though now it only covers a small area. At first I thought it was a fungal infection. Steroid cream did not work very well; Eucrisa does a much better job for me.

I saw results of an informal survey of people with MSA recently and around 1/3 reported itching and rashes; I don't know how that compares with the general population in that age range.

I was able to treat my dermatitis with CBDTHC cream.

Maybe some nutritional deficiency? Maybe try zinc?

Zinc should help. There is also the 40% topical zinc cream used for diaper rash or to prevent diaper rash.

Sometimes psoriasis can be caused by food or other sensitivities effecting your overall health and erupts on the skin in various places. I had it on my hand, got pretty bad with the rash progressing into cracked skin that was scaly and bleeding, very sore. Haven't had issues in years as I have cleaned up my diet, especially from wheat.

I have pd too and I feel like I am growing a second layer of skin on my face

I had a patch on my face and read on this forum that I could try using some anti dandruff shampoo on it. Borrowed my husband's 'Head & Shoulders' - it worked! Thank you HU...

The shampoo only treats the surface, if you have a body wide yeast infection just washing your skin, it will come back. A Dr can take a swab and test it for fungus or yeast. If it is sugar based you will need to cut out sugar.

This is from left field, but is the area in question located where your weight is concentrated when you sit? Might it be from continuous pressure on the area? If so, keep an eye on it, because it might develop into a pressure sore.

in reply to

That's an interesting thought....it is where the most weight is located when I sit, whichis on a hard metal stool running my shop. I appreciate everyones comments here.

I

No Health professional would offer a diagnosis and recommend a treatment before they have examined the rash.

I suggest you see your family doctor.

"Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition in the general population, but even more commonly found in people with PD. It causes patches of scaly, red skin and dandruff, primarily on the scalp and on the oily parts of the face such as the sides of the nose." My PwP friend has patches of this on his arms and knees. It is just horrible. It looks like plaque psoriasis.

This is the RIGHT place to ask this question.

Thank you.

My husband who has PD developed dry, scaly red patches on both feet. The doctor called it sebhorrhea. Yesterday and today I tried a roll-on tea tree oil since it treats fungus. His feet already are looking less scaly and red.

Thanks for your input.I've been t rying a variety of things that seem to help a little. I'll give it aniother week r so and if it isn't clearing up, I'll go see my Dr.

If you do try tea tree oil, it is strong, so be sure to use it with a carrier oil and not straight. The roll-on I tried was already diluted. It has worked better than soaking his feet a water and Epson salt solution. Best of luck to you.

I have GREAT news!!! I was ceaning off a shelf in my studio and came across a smal tin of Bag Balm that I bouht years ago to heal the cracked cuticals on my fingers. I imediately put some on this dry scaey patch on my bum and by bed time it was almost gone. This morning I would say it is gone! Bag Balm is on ebay and amazon and probably any ddrugstore and farm supply. I wish I could tell you what it was that I had, but I hadn't gotten to the Dr. point yet. I'm not sure I would apply to an open sore, but I woud to any dry, scaley issue I had. Hope this is an answer for others. Thanks to everyone who responded here.
