My doctor prescribed the old version of rasagaline called selegiline. It's the generic for Eldepryl. I haven't tried it yet, but it's about 1/3 of the cost.

They are both MAO-B inhibitors but they are not the same. Did you have a question?

Is one better than the other for PD? I take Selegiline. My neuro said no difference.

Slight differences. Selegiline is a mild stimulant. Rasagaline is alleged to slow progression although the evidence is not strong.

I was on Selegiline long before Rasagiline came out. After 8 years I was able to stop raking the selegiline and have not been on any Pd medication since 2002. I probably could have gone off four years earlier, when my symptoms had already improved to the same level as they were 4 years later. I believe they are the only pills that should be prescribed for Pd, but I am not a doctor.

I trust my neurologist who chose selegiline, he says it could be a neuroprotective.
