How best to combine Madopar with Mucuna?

My husband has been using Mucuna (99% L-dopa) fairly successfully over the past 3 or so years, and only recently added Madopar. Our own consultant is ok with us using Mucuna, but doesn't really give much advice about how to best use it.

So my question is? Should we be using Madopar equally spaced throughout the day?

At the moment we use a half capsule of Madopar SR (100/25), at 8am, 2.30pm, and 10pm. And in between several small doses of Mucuna. It's working ok, but there are bad wear-off periods, and I wondered if we spaced the Madopar out more regularly that this wouldn't happen as much?

Does anyone have any experience of this? I don't really want advice about other meds, just anything particular to this one. We did ask a private consultant who suggested the combination of meds.

But we'd much prefer not having to pay out again! Thanks in advance for any relevant advice.

Just experiment. I use both Madopar and MP. Sometimes together sometimes at different points in the day. An agonist ( slow release) might help iron out the off periods?

Hi, I am just seeing this post and my husband is ready to try madopar for the first time and to try and mix in the mucuna as well. Do you take the full Madopar dose or cut it in half when you combine the two levadopas? Thanks for any advice you might have.Cheers

I’ve only just started using a Mucuna product. I’m in New Zealand so don’t have ready access to the Mucuna 99% without paying exorbitant postage fees. I’m using the Piping Rock Mucuna Dopa 15% which is a US-based product as well, but they have a NZ supplier. Started using 2 x 350mg capsules about a week ago. Felt relatively little difference when I was taking it in between Madopar/Pramipexole doses. But the last couple of days I’ve been taking it with the Pharmac meds and I think it’s made a difference - not as many tremors. My theory - helps it gets past the blood-brain barrier - probably not a scientific theory but I’ll go with it for now - what does the reason matter anyway if it makes things better. For my history, I was dx April 2013 and have been on same drugs for seven years (apart from initial change)0 after three months when sorting out side effects). Hope this helps. Look forward to seeing other replies.
