You mean Madopar? That is the right stuff. How much you taking?

Dholplayer profile image

I take 3 tabs per day

park_bear in reply toDholplayer

You may not be taking enough. What dose those tabs are?

Apologies... Dose is 125mg

That is not a high dose. However you should be getting at least some relief. If it is having no effect at all, then that brings the diagnosis into question.

Hi park_bear,

For some reason I haven't heard of madopar. I haven't been able to get a good nights sleep for years because I of the tingling tremors running up and down my legs and back. Doc has had me try a number of prescription sleeping pills and they all make my symptoms worse!! If I have to walk down the hallway in the middle of the night I am literally bouncing off the walls. Does madopar have these side effects tool?

Thank you,

Oo

Madopar is a levodopa medication available in the UK. Are you taking some form of levodopa? In my opinion levodopa should be the first medication to try for relief of tremors in Parkinson's.

Thank you. Yes, I take Rytary, carbadopa:but my last dose is at 7PM

and what little remains

My apologies for the incomplete response. Was unexpectedly sidetracked.

I was going to say that the carb/by lev med that I take is Rytary, and since my last dose is at 7PM, there isn’t much levodopa in my system when I go to bed around 11:30.

I take combination of magnesium, melatonin and zinc before I go to bed. Just began adding zinc recently.

If I fall asleep quickly, I typically wake up an hour or so later, don’t feel tired and can’t get back to sleep.

The other typical scenario involves getting into bed and getting comfortable, and just as I feel I’m in a good position to get some sleep, the zingers hit and all I can do is stand up to get relief from them, or stretch out on a carpeted floor and do some stretches and twists.

Do these sound like issues Madopar is designed for?

I'm on Sinemet. Still have tremors. What are the side effects of what you are taking?

Rytary is the better choice in my opinion. Standard Madopar is immediate release - not nearly as good. Is there any reason you cannot take your final Rytary dose closer to bedtime?

When I wake up too soon and don’t feel tired I go to the living room and practice meditation. I make no attempt to go back to sleep. Usually sleep arrives. If not that is okay too.

i am tremor dominant. c/l has little to no benefit for my tremor, but i take (1mg) artane along with the c/l. 1 mg is a very low dose, but it does the trick.

If you have vision problems, I would avoid artane (Trihexyphenidyl ) or amantadine. Long term use can lead to irreversible damage.

Same goes if you are into distance running or biking with artane.

Just be careful.

Thank you Sharon... I will carry on with Madopa for now and see what happens

Modopa standard and Sinemet IR have comparable results ...assuming equivalent base dosing.

Modopa HBS differs from Rapid Release and Standard Release

Know which one you take; it can make a difference in results in night time sleep

Artane is a century old medication which my husband's first neurologist at Auburn University prescribed. The side effects were horrible. He discontinued it after asking the neuro how to gradually stop it. A few months later we made an appointment with Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. The MDS there was shocked that the neuro at Auburn prescribed it and said that he has never nor would prescribe Artane!

I take primadone and it helps. Occasionally, I need the dose increased. As for my head shaking, I have Botox Injections in my neck every three months. It helps tremendously. Talk with your neurologist as he/she is the person to make medical recommendations. Good luck as it can be very frustrating.

Does it completely halt the tremors. How long one dose last. Does it cause dryness of mouth and eyes. What dose are you taking
