My dad has been taking the Life Extension version for about 6 months. He really likes it. Along with thiamine. He says he thinks it has slowed progression of PD.

Roy,

Have you considered taking a B1 break for a few days?

in reply toDespe

I have broke

Perhaps you need a longer break as you are on HDT for a long time. Same happened to my husband. He has been taking breaks as he started HDT in May 2018 (100mg injections X 2 a week). He has upped and decreased his original dose for many times and he is down to 25mg (he is on a break right now). Your and his system is flooded with B1.

Not long after diagnosis (6 years ago + 1 day! - not that I'm counting) I was advised by my PD nurse to take a magnesium supplement. At that point I didn't know about the different forms of Magnesium. I bought what I thought was a good quality Mg supplement, citrate I think. The last lot I bought consisted of 2 huge tablets which you couldn't split and which I couldn't swallow (hang up not PD related). Also they contained all sorts of fillers etc. Thus a total waste of money. I have become more informed over the years and I have looked for pharmaceutical grade supplements. I quite liked Trace Minerals stress X magnesium powder Mg Malate and citrate. Anecdotal evidence, but recently I have found that I have had more energy. I had never linked this to the form of Mg I was taking but I have subsequently found that Malate = Energy and Threonate = Brain Health. Spurred on by your post I have looked at Frank C Church's blog journeywithparkinsons.com/2... I am now going to source some Mg Threonate. Thank you.
