I think (and is just my opinion) that they may have been on respirator too long. I am Asthmatic, when I had pneumonia I asked for an oxygen tube to be put down my nose. The respirator can do damage to the bottom of the Lungs to the alveoli that collect and pass on the oxygen. Just a thought.
well this is an interesting question which for me is kind of parallel to the question of why so many healthcare workers are getting sick. Is this some sort of implication that there is a simple literal viral load in the atmosphere factor and the more in your immediate area, the quicker and more intensely someone vulnerable is going to fall, i.e. affecting one's relative vulnerability all by itself?.?
Could be that they are in worse health being in the hospital possibly subjected to who knows what meds, crappy hospital food, no sunlight or fresh air, in isolation, immune system is in the crapper from being sick on top of it. If the meds killed off their gut, there goes the immune system, on top of the whole regimen of the gut being off kilter. It proves a good place for the bad stuff to populate and grow.
