Hormesis=Stress?

Ok, here's a new topic for COVID-19 discussion.

I've been musing over this after reading in many articles about boosting immunity, that keeping stress in check is essential. Stress lowers immunity. Just being in this situation, at home most of the time, worried about my family (daughter with asthma, 99 yr old mom in assisted living with no visits allowed), much reduced income, is highly stressful.

Many of the things i do as part of my PD program for slowing progression, work through hormesis.

Hormesis is a "generally favorable biological responses to low exposures to toxins and other stressors". High intensity exercise, fasting (intermittent or otherwise), saunas, all contribute to health through placing a level of stress on the body which leads to strengthening and improved health.

My integrative doc recommended not doing intermittent fasting during the CV outbreak.

Now I'm wondering if HI exercise and saunas should be modified as well.

What do you think?

Governor Cuomo of NY just publish a number to call and talk to somebody about stress. Any body has that number?

My experience is intense exercise is a different kind of stress than mental stress. Intense exercise tends to lesson mental stress. Intense exercise can raise the immune system while mental stress lowers it.

Hi Rebtar - I have been taking cold showers, intermittent fasting and cutting out animal products for the past month. I haven’t felt this good in a long time. Tremors have almost completely disappeared and gait is almost normal. Hormesis is a lifesaver.

All animal products? Where do you get your protein?

in reply toRebtar

Whey protein powder......although I realize that one could argue it too is an animal product. Also beans or legumes and lentils. I may add back fish and chicken in time.
