Our Neurons Aren't Dead and Can Be Brought Back to Life???

"This research refutes the common belief that there is no disease-modifying treatment for PD due to its basis on neuronal cell death," said Dr. Hoon Ryu of Brain Science Institute at KIST. "The significance of this study lies in its potential as the new form of treatment for patients in early stages of PD."

Since dormant neurons can be awakened to resume their production capability, this finding will allow us to give PD patients hope to live a new life without PD."

Should we all insist on being prescribed Xadago or a similar MAO-B inhibitor? Or do we patiently wait for additional studies while we continue to deteriorate?

Welcome hope.

There has been previous research regarding the potential disease modifying effects of rasagiline, including in combination with isradipine, and the conclusion was no benefit.

It's encouraging research, and part of the pool of hopeful progress. Not sure of the provenance. Would love to see Simon comment on the science of Parkinson's.

Edit: I see there is more recent research questioning the FDA's 2011 decision to reject rasagiline as disease modifying. The data is still ambiguous, but there may be some benefit. I guess its one of those situations like Terazosin or Felodipine, where if you need the medication for its primary purpose, and its equally suited and tolerated, then you might as well switch to it. Even if, like Isradipine, it eventually fails to show a positive outcome.

Docs can readily prescribe it for you off-label.

Here is a good example of how by stimulating cell Function has the consequence of modifying the cell Structure itself... in mice.

This subdivision of the problem in Function and Structure gives us the theoretical possibility to cause changes in the case of PD, ...

Who knows that imposing Function to the body with exercise does not bring the restoration of brain Structures compromised by the disease ?

PS Every single organ, cell or mitochondrion has a structure to perform a certain function, for example the lungs are pockets that have the function to bring the oxygen from the atmosphere to the blood. The more they are used, the larger and more capable they become structurally. Just to give a trivial example of that.

Hooray! I have been preaching this since 2003. I have been medication-free since then.

Fast walking is all I had to do to achieve that goal.

Look at my website - reverseparkinsons.net and contact me. I will help you to do the same

You do have consistency, I know that the day you stop is the day either Christ has come back or we have all been blown up or cooked. Carry on.

There is another possibility. What would happen if the drug companies were to really look for a cure for Pd? They won't of course, because it is not in their interest. But nevertheless, it is as likely as Christ coming back!
