There has been previous research regarding the potential disease modifying effects of rasagiline, including in combination with isradipine, and the conclusion was no benefit.
It's encouraging research, and part of the pool of hopeful progress. Not sure of the provenance. Would love to see Simon comment on the science of Parkinson's.
Edit: I see there is more recent research questioning the FDA's 2011 decision to reject rasagiline as disease modifying. The data is still ambiguous, but there may be some benefit. I guess its one of those situations like Terazosin or Felodipine, where if you need the medication for its primary purpose, and its equally suited and tolerated, then you might as well switch to it. Even if, like Isradipine, it eventually fails to show a positive outcome.
Docs can readily prescribe it for you off-label.

PS Every single organ, cell or mitochondrion has a structure to perform a certain function, for example the lungs are pockets that have the function to bring the oxygen from the atmosphere to the blood. The more they are used, the larger and more capable they become structurally. Just to give a trivial example of that.

There is another possibility. What would happen if the drug companies were to really look for a cure for Pd? They won't of course, because it is not in their interest. But nevertheless, it is as likely as Christ coming back!
