Restless leg and pd

Anyone had any success eliminating or limiting the effects of Restless Leg Syndrome? For me it's the most annoying side effect of pd. My MDS has me on a dose of ropinirole (requip) around 7 pm. It usually is effective, but now I'm starting to get RLS symptoms in mid-afternoon. Any suggestions?

Someone I know with restless leg syndrome has found a levodopa preparation to be helpful.

Thanks. I've been told that dopamine agonists are more effective than dopamine supplements (carbidopa/levodopa). But ironically the restless leg started at the same time my neurologist put me on a daily agonist (requip) to see if it would be more effective than dopamine.

Since it started at the same time seems like it would be be worth trying to taper off of the ropinirole and substitute levodopa preparations instead to see if that makes any difference.

I'll let you know if that works.

Levodopa Carbidopa is the best for yopd.

Nothing works. It will continue even after levadopa, carbidopa, rasagellin, pramirol. So to summarise- avoid excessive medication which is harmful for other organs of the body

Ropinirole also has extreme side effects. Try LAVIDA 100 MG....

Have you tried Theraworks? I think it does a pretty good job of keeping cramps in check. Also RLS

Have you ever tried Theraworks foam? It does a good job of keeping it in check for me. Also cramps. Get it at Walgreens, Walmart, CVS, etc

ancee,

Theraworks Relief foam works good and very similar to mag oil without the lasting oily feel of mag oil. Some people are not open to its use because it is a homeopathic version (super dilutions). The other downside is that it is twice the price of many mag oil products, but definitely more comfortable to use and it is based on magnesium sulphate instead of magnesium chloride. If it was based on magnesium chloride, I would consider it at least as good or better than mag oil because of the less oily feel and the faster drying time.

This is the best price ($18.67 per tube) I have found for a two pack of Theraworx Relief foam and it has free shipping from Amazon:

amazon.com/Theraworx-Relief...

The next best price is at Walmart for $18.96 per tube.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. It's such a maddening sensation that I'm at my wits ends.

Make sure you have your iron levels checked. And if you do need supplementation - really try to go with liquid iron. Tastes yucky so just mix it with a bit of orange juice in a shot glass & shoot it down. I struggled with anemia for a long while - the liquid really gets assimilated. The pills are often a waste. (Restless legs often associated with low iron levels).

I have tried a magnesium spray for anxiety and stress that I got for $20 on Amazon. Spray it on my legs and soles of my feet, rub in and I can notice a big difference in my legs calming to sleep. The spray also has oils in it. Worth a try for sure!

I've found that my RL correlates with my accidentally missing or being late with a Rytary dose. Since figuring this out (duh!), I rarely experience it.

He takes VOOST magnesium 200mg effervescent in the morning after breakfast, 1/2 hour after his medication, any magnesium tablet should be fine, he just prefers to take it as a drink. Works for him and a work collueges mother who has restless legs but doesn't have PD. Worth a try.

My doc prescribed ropinerole around bedtime, and it worked. I have used this for a year, and it still works. However, I went out-of-town and forgot my ropinerole tablets, so used a half a sinemet (instant release) in place of the ropinerole, and that also seemed to do the trick. Maybe, like Park Bear suggested, you could talk to your doc about using a bit more levodopa at night to get you through without the annoying restless legs.

I have found quite accidently that gabapentin (Neurontin) is very effective at stopping RLS symptoms - and also newly-arrived dystonia in my right foot. I take 100 mg as needed, generally 4 x a day. That, plus CL 25-100 ACT four times daily and then cl 25-100 ER at bedtime. I also find that wrapping my right foot in an Ace bandage minimizes dystonia and also gives support to my Achilles heel which is very tender now from the effects of dystonia on it.

I'm going to also get compression knee highs which may allow me to alternate with the Ace bandage.

Thanks. I'll give it a try and let you know if it works for me.
