I’ve had Parkinsons for 13 years at least, my tremors and problems, stiffness, hard time writing, is on my right side but every night when I get ready or go to bed my left toes cramp and curl under for about 15 minutes and then goes away mostly with the help of my wife messaging the foot does anyone else out there experience this and why?

Hello Dalev

Magnesium supplements work very well for cramps. You will get fast relief from taking any of the available forms of magnesium sold over the counter.

Also, if you are not already taking Thiamin HCl (B1 vitamin), you should have a look at Royprop's profile. It is helping quite a few people with cramps and much more.

There is lots of info on this site on these two supplements available over the counter.

Good luck!

Sure ...Magnesium L Theonate is said to be able to break the blood brain barrier to the brain for better absorption than other types of magnesium. I use Neuro Magnesium from Life Extension, 3 capsules every other day.

My left toes used to curl over in bed before I knew I had PD. I fixed it with magnesium before bed. They don’t curl much any more except just before my next dose of madapor.

Sounds like Madopa is helping too?

Astra7 in reply toTL500

This is odd. For a while when I woke up my toes were very curled and I could take my dose of madapor and watch my toes uncurl over the next hour. I’ve just now realised they are hardly curled any more. Maybe it’s because I’m taking more mg at night now and it’s lasting till morning.

I’m also trialling doxycycline but havnt noticed any thing yet so about to give up on that one☹️.

Thanks Astra7. How long have you been taking madopa for?

Astra7 in reply toTL500

3 years now. I take 1/4 of a pill 4 times a day. So 1 pill a day basically!

Hello Dalev ... I started getting severe foot cramps that my doctors have said were side effects of the high levels of Levodopa (sinemet) I am currently taking daily 1000-1200mg. this condition is called dystonia, if it's not one thing it's another with PD ..I am currently in the process of lowering my Levodopa daily intake.

TL500 profile image
TL500 in reply toTheLordsWeapon

Is Levadopa usually 100/25mg?

in reply toTL500

TL500, usually that's the starting dose for new patients, I started on (3) 100mg tabs a day one every 6 hours that was 3 years ago, now im at 250mg dose 4 times a day, but I am experimenting with grapefruit juice this past week and have cut my dose down to 150mg five times per day so far....still getting used to the reduction, my daily intake of levodopa is now at 750mg per day, down from the 1000-1200mg I was taking, that's way too much levodopa which started to cause Dyskinesia symptoms like the cramps I've been having in the feet and involuntary movements in arms and legs and jaw, mainly when trying to sleep.

TL500 in reply toTheLordsWeapon

Thanks. Does dyskinesia reduce?

TheLordsWeapon profile image
TheLordsWeapon in reply toTL500

From my experience with Levadopa, the smaller the total daily dose, the less intensity of Dyskinesia side effects..

Is the dykinesia side effect permanent? Thanks

My hubby will get cramps in thigh or calf once in awhile. My foot will too, maybe part of Fibro. Try potassium or just eat a banana. I take a multi vit, CoQ10, Vit D but it's like pulling teeth to get him to do so. I have to put them in his hand and I forget, yet he's great about taking his C/L every night. So far, he doesn't take more during the day tho tremors show up later in day. He's determined to keep meds low. Also very worried about his ankles swelling. On Web MD, says it's heart related but have a hard time getting him to reg. Dr. He only goes to Nuerologist twice a tear.

Good luck easing your foot cramps.
