I have had PD for 16 years and there is one thing I just can't seem to manage through and that's foot cramps in my left foot when I awake in the am, or go 4 hours without my carbidopa ( after I take two tablets the cramps disappear in about 30 - 45 ) any suggestions?

Have you tried extended release carbo/leva?

Extended release carbo/leva is an excellent suggestion. Another thing to try is spray on magnesium "oil". It feels oily but is really just a solution of magnesium chloride.

You could also try the spray on magnesium, I got mine from Swanson, it's ancient magnesium chloride.

Try taking a Vitamin B12 supplement before going to bed and once during the day, may be after breakfast - may need a couple of days before you see any improvement.

Try over the counter Theraworx. Massage the magnesium foam over the entire foot until absorbed by skin.

I use a magnesium cream, similar to oil but absorbs better into the skin. Agree with B12 recommendation, might also try magnesium oral supplements.

This may not be relevant to anyone but when I get foot or leg cramps, I take CoQ10 in liquid formulation and it goes away.

(But I also taken atorvastatin for a few decades)

Theraworx. It is offered in foam or spray $18 a bottle. Works amazing for me. I use foam and rub it on calves and feet between toes. Not oily

I’d try magnesium supplements before bed.

NewHope1961,

Mag oil is fast, effective, well absorbed to add to your existing magnesium stores.

Another consideration if the absorbable forms of magnesium including mag oil do not adequately stop your cramping is to consider potassium supplementation as a level that is too low can also result in cramping.

Here is a link to a post I wrote about magnesium as it relates to PD :

Here is an article that discusses cramps and potassium:
