I-F is one of the most effective and accessible things we can do for ourselves. And it costs 0. I have followed for periods of time the keto regimen of containing caloric intake to 8 hours and fasting for 16. It works, and when it does it’s a beautiful thing.

Here’s another video on the subject by Dr Boz, who explains Autophagy very well:

We either stop the little critters from misfolding, which we cannot do, or we try to clear them out via autophagy which means doing everything we can to up regulate it and doing everything we can not to impede it, such as eating animal protein.

We've been eating fish, vegetables, & salad every day for dinner, but that's not good enough.

My wife and I have been talking the past few weeks about trying to go vegan, albeit gradually -- and I think we're finally there.

If, when I were young man, I was taking care of my health the way I am now, I'd have four arms and be 10 feet tall.

OK if you are overweight but what if you are underweight. I eat as much as I can to put on weight as I am 147lbs and 6'1" and concerned about keeping my muscle mass up after losing half a stone while in hospital for a procedure. Maybe eating supper as early as possible and breakfast as late as possible and after exercise?

Kevin,

Your BMI is 19.4. The general rule is you should not be under 20. Mine is 19.5, so I have the same concern. Some say eating continuously throughout the day will help a person gain weight, but for now, I am going to try to continue intermittent fasting. I have increased my exercise (I am now at 2 hours/day) which makes me hungrier so I eat more during my 7 or 8 hour window. I have loosened up my restriction on carbs, somewhat. I'm trying to pay more attention to eating nutrient dense food, although I thought it was doing that. There is not much else we can do other than be more disciplined about what we eat. I have a meeting with nutritionist at the VA next week about this and if she says anything original, I'll get back to you.

I also practice Intermittent Fasting to increase autophagy.

would be interested in your thoughts on this;

I use a hot sauna based on the following logic:

sauna (heat) increases heat-shock proteins (which are chaperone proteins that work to reduce incorrect protein folding)

this will hence reduce alpha syn misfolding

Jjrr,

I don't know what you mean by "...heat shock proteins..." I've never heard that. Would you explain little about it? I tried a sauna a couple times a couple years ago and they make my tremor so bad, I haven't got in one since.

Have not seen much in academic journals/studies about heat shock proteins - but have seen alot in popular press about HSPs and sauna's.

Here are some relevant links.

"Heat shock proteins (HSPs) play a central part in regulating protein quality control and contribute to protein aggregation and disaggregation. Therefore, HSPs are viable targets for the development of drugs aimed at reducing pathogenic protein aggregates that are thought to contribute to the development of so many neurodegenerative disorders."

What do you think of spermidine / natto? I had actually learned to like natto (which also supplies K2, PQQ and nattokinase), then I found out spermidine promotes alpha synuclein aggregation in vitro, so I stopped eating it.
