Over the past 2 years, I've bought 4 different kinds of CBD oil and only used each a few times as they did nothing for me. 3 weeks ago my daughter, who has a medical marijuana card, sent me 3 different forms of medical grade CBD oil and the difference is significant. One was a disposable vape, one was a vape that screws into a battery pack, in the 3rd was a "hybrid" (CURALEAF) where you create single drops to freeze so they can then be swallowed whole with food.
If you look under my profile, you’ll see I take quite a list of supplements, all of which I have reported about and none have caused any discernible relief. I’ve now tried each of the aforementioned products and I am amazed at the difference. My wife and 2 of my children concur the differences obvious.
The only explanation can be that this was medical grade from a licensed medical dispensary. Apparently, that each state licenses the dispensaries is a good thing because they get to enforce standards of authenticity and quality.
While my tremor and freezing have been cut at least in half and my walking and movement are more fluid, the difference I’m most appreciative of is my attitude. While I have generally remained positive, now, I actually feel good, happy, and best of all, motivated. Everyone has commented on my being much more communicative. Last night we were all sitting around in the living talking and laughing and joking and carrying on just like before. There wasn't a dry eye in the room.
I had not connected the dots between the mixed reviews, but clearly medical grade is the difference, and has made a big deal difference for me.
The brand the stuff I got is KNOX (in Florida.)

Marc, Does your new cbd have a ratio with THC. I have found for me as well that the CBD does not work as well unless it has s ratio with THC. I use a 4:1 ratio tincture spray. And have been cosidering the vape because the vape is faster acting then tinctures. Karen
Karen, the tincture is the one I freeze and swallow. They came with a lot of literature which I have not even read all of yet, so I don't know the ratio, but my daughter said there is some THC in it. I read the literature today and report back.
what state are you in? I live in VA which recently legalized it. I know you cannot buy it from a different state than the one you live in, so who knows if the brands mentioned in this post will be available in VA. they have not gotten their program/dispensaries up and running yet.
I looked up the info on VA and I didnt realize that all they legalized it for is for epilepsy. bummer, I thought it was legal for same conditions as in FL.
I'm speaking about the state of VA while you maybe referring to the veterans administration?
There was a Vietnam vet (saw the bumper stickers) in the hemp store (just hemp-derived products are legal here) last time I was there, asking the same questions that I asked the first time I purchased. I hope it worked out as well for him.
VA is a big joke, Marc. We have to submit our claim THREE times, most probably different agents handled our case and everyone wanted to have their own paperwork. Just unbelievable.
There are 2 sides to the VA. One Jekyll, one Hyde. The claims people are terrible. I found the healthcare people to be excellent, when you finally get there.
I really hope we get full legalization across the whole US soon, and that there will be standards for labeling CBD and THC content, as well as an organic standard. So many people could be helped.
Marc, thanks for posting. I have never tried the oil. In your post you're talking about a happy, positive attitude towards life. In passing at different times when I mention LDN that's what gives me a happy, satisfying feeling. Once in awhile when I stop my life becomes gloomy. Mary
Not so fast. I was just telling the daughter who has the medical marijuana card how well I responded, (who I haven't seen since I got it) and she said not to expect such good results every time I use it especially if I try to use it every day. That I should let much of it clear my system before the next dose -- which means use it on bad days or when going out. Too good to be true, but still pretty good. I'll take whatever I can get.
That’s great Marc. Very happy for you and thanks for sharing. Will be curious to hear the ratio.
Marc,
Congratulations on finding some good CBD combos that work well with you!
For me, CBD alone has shown little to nothing and I think many of the products you can buy on line are not effective, even though many people swear by them. It sounds like the products you got have some THC content to cause the kind of results you are describing. If what you have is just CBD and no THC, they do make MM CBD water also which may be useful come summer if it is also effective for you. There is a popular third form or constituent of MM called CBN which is also helpful for sleep like THC. I did not find the high content CBD to be anywhere near as effective as a sleep aid.
I have a brother who uses two different MM tinctures. One is a high CBD/low THC and the other one is high THC/low CBD which was significantly more expensive. For him, they both have positive effects, but his preference is for the high THC/low CBD. On the other hand, he sometimes likes the effects that the high CBD/low THC offers as they are different from each other. I think if he could only have one, he would choose the high THC version.
Let us know the content of your products and of the three, which do you see the best results with?
Art, we have an apt with a practitioner in a neighboring state for my husband's evaluation and CBD prescription. She mentioned that her product is based on RSO guidelines. Reading about these guidelines, it appears one has this "high" effect which my husband doesn't want. We are thinking about 4:1 ratio (CBD/THC). We have no experience other than reading on line comments from users. Since you have the experience and my husband's symptoms are fairly mild, what do you believe the ratio would be? Thanks for your always so welcome expertise and advice.
I feel I may be a little biased toward the higher THC content because The THC effects, to me, are apparent while the CBD effects, not so much. I do believe the CBD has benefit, but those benefits seem to be more subtle when compared to THC.I do believe that some THC is needed for best effect.
Another point is that my main use is for sleep, whereas your husband is likely looking for better symptom control during waking hours. For sleep I definitely prefer the indica variety, but for waking hours, I would definitely prefer the sativa variety. The tinctures are easiest to use, while vaping or smoking will give faster results as in 5 minutes or less whereas tinctures and edibles have taken hours in me for their effects to be felt which is a definite problem when trying to use them as a sleep aid. The delay makes it harder to determine an optimal dose too.
I think if I was trying it for the first time, my preference would be to use a vape and I would try a cartridge of something along the line of a 3 or 4 to 1 THC/CBD and a cartridge of 3 or 4 to 1 CBD / THC. The higher CBD cartridge may be good for day time use and the higher THC good for use as a sleep aid. From those two cartridges I would be able to get a better idea of what my overall preference would be. If I was looking to test, the cheapest way possible, I would just buy pre-rolled joints of the different blends I am interested in trying and then get vape cartridges with a similar blend.
On my initial testing, especially of the higher THC blends I would only take one draw on the joint and wait five to 10 minutes max to see what effect it has. If no effect, I would take another draw and again wait 5 to 10 minutes to see what effect it has. When the desired effect is reached, then I will know the number of draws it takes to get the desired effect, so the next time I use it, if it took 4 draws to get the desired effect then that will be my base dose going forward, take 4 draws at once.
There is always the possibility of a bit of paranoia creeping in if you dose too high, so I feel for me, it is better to start low and work upward rather than starting high(pun intended!) and working down!

A little bit of information about CBN as opposed to CBD and THC :
Another form she mentioned was suppositories or patches but she didn't go into details. We have an appointment next month and will discuss it at depth at that time.
Yeah, I have no experience with MM suppositories or patches and what the delay is like with these two modalities. Patches don't seem like something I would want, but somebody who might want a slow steady delivery all day long may find it useful.
Thanks again! I got in touch with this practitioner through our holistic dentist (2 hour drive) who has psoriasis and is on MM. Don't know his kind of MM treatment and never discussed it, but his staff helped us out to get in touch with the practitioner who dispenses MM.
I've used many brands and forms, but every dispensary I go to (many), have their house brands and it seems that when they carry popular species that are well known, they keep switching it up. This is a growth problem that I hope they will be able to resolve soon because sometimes I buy a popular species from a well known supplier and the next time I go back to buy it they no longer have it and it is so disappointing! Failing to find what I came to buy, I often have to settle for another product that has similar THC/CBD ratio, but sometimes even though they appear similar on paper, they turn out to be not as good. I recently bought a product called XXX as a substitute for a product that they no longer carried and though I didn't think it was as good of a product, I liked it because it had what I would describe as herbal balsam pine scent to it that was subtle, but I kind of like the scent. Obviously I am not using this stuff for the scent, so although I liked that particular aspect, I would still prefer to have the product that I wanted to buy again.
No wonder I've been in such a good mood. The 2 vape's are 50-50, but the tincture is 80% CBD, 20% THC. I like the tincture better, although it seems to take a full hour or more to take effect, but it last 6 hours, plus. After I have more experience with this stuff, I think I will to prefer less THC -- something that's 4:1 or 5:1. I see that all the comments here from people with knowledge and experience, such as yourself, say I must have some THC in it.
I slept like a stone last night. 1st time in years.
Marc
PS the tincture is made by Knox and the vapes are from CURALEAF.
I’m in California and there’s several dispensaries but there are some that have more knowledge and experience to personally help people with what they are searching for. And have answers to your questions . I have my favorite one. Karen
i have found that 40% extraction works for me - the oil we can buy in UK is around 3% - 5% extraction. The best of all is a mix with THC which is illegal in UK
Really please for you Mark . I've felt the CBD oil I tried useful but we doubtless have different suppliers here in the EU. Not using anything whilst on the trial but will check out your recommendations when appropriate
My daughter has the medical marijuana card and the prescription, so she sent me some of her stuff. She says you do need a prescription, plus you have to prove that you have 1 of the 12 illnesses which qualifies -- which PD does. I assume in every state where it is only approved for medical uses, you would need a prescription
I hope everybody reads this. It explains why 4 different "off the street" brands did nothing for me, but the stuff from a dispensary licensed for medical CBD will sell the real article.
Don't buy your CBD from a tattoo parlor or store with hubcaps on the door.
And another thing to look at if you are looking to buy tinctures is to see what else is mixed with it. If it says alcohol don’t buy it . It should be a coconut oil or something in that category. Always read the labels and ask questions . Take care . Karen
You take a chance mailing it, which is illegal. Too bad you have to take such risk to feel bettter. I live close to Florida but not in it, so I'm stuck in a dinosaur state. I was seeing a functional medicine doctor in Florida and she really wanted me to have MM but just couldn't get around the law. You really need some supervision to know what and how to take it. It is a drug, even though it's natural. (So is opium lol).
Sarah, the battery-operated vape is from Knox and the tincture is curaleaf. I'm not too interested in the vapers because they're 50/50 CBD to THC which is more THC than I want, so I'll probably mail the 2 vapes back to my daughter and keep the tincture. She bought them so I don't know how much they cost.
You can't beat the convenience of a tincture and that's what I would definitely be using if not for the variable delay compared to the vape and the buds which are very fast acting.
cjw6343, the purpose of PD forum is to share information. If you know the root cause and know that it's not incurable, is that something you can share with us?
Marc, how are you doing with your tinctures and vapes. I like my tincture but I too , wish it was more fast acting. I’ve been playing with the thought of the vape 4:1 , my brand Care By Design does have them . My question for you and the vape , do you notice any effect on your lungs. Being a runner , I am so old school but if I can get relief quicker it’s worth it. Karen
Karen, I use care by design as well 1:1. Not fast acting but lasts a lot longer than vape. Vape will get you to sleep but doesn’t last as long as the tincture. Been vaping a while and very active cyclist. Don’t notice any effect on lungs. Helps me get to sleep when I need it.
Thank you. I use 2 drops at the 4:1 so yes I’m sure the 1:1 would probably be good for sleep too. I appreciate you telling me your experience with it. Karen
I stopped because I thought it was an inhibitor of an enzyme that I can't allow to be inhibited, but have done more research and found CBD is an insignificant inhibitor, so I am just about to resume. I found it quite beneficial my 1st couple weeks with it.
