5 Questions For The Forum Regarding CBD Products

chartist profile image
36 Replies

I have heard mixed reports about CBD products and was wondering if the forum members could help determine what if any benefits you have found from the use of CBD purchased online as opposed to CBD purchased from legal medical marijuana dispensaries. Her are my questions

1. I am interested in knowing if anyone has found lasting benefit from CBD products that can be purchased legally in all states?

2. If you have found benefit from CBD products, what benefit have you found related to PD such as tremor relief, pain relief, anxiety relief or insomnia relief as basic examples?

3. If you have used more than one product, have you found that some products are more effective than others?

4. Would you recommend online CBD products to friends and family?

5. If you have tried both online CBD as well as CBD purchased from medical marijuana dispensaries (Cannabis derived CBD) in states where it is legal, what differences if any have you found between the two.

If you have any other ideas or suggestions regarding CBD, please include them if you have time.

Thank you!

Hi Art, you need to rephrase question 1, it's really pretty garbled because you have indistinct and multiple subjects and multiple clauses, so one can't tell which exactly you were referring to... Means that any answers will be unintelligible and not able to help in any way cuz we won't know what the answer is actually mean since the questions are indistinct, rephrase it maybe as separate questions instead of including the "and" and "not." I think you have perhaps multiple sub questions under number 1.

For instance, are you talking about INCLUDING, or EXCLUDING, medical cannabis dispensaries?

Are you including, or not including, CBD derivatives grown from hemp rather than cannabis (because CBD grown from hemp with a little bit of THC gets around the state laws that in many states prohibit all cannibis not doctor- prescribed). U.S. is a hotch potch, in that federal laws probhibit marijuana sources but allow CBD with a tiny bit of THC if such is grown from hemp, but those federally allowed amounts are extremely minor, whereas effective-dose quantities of CBD and THC are controlled by the individual states' laws, which specify that cannabis (while being rather silent about the hemp source) is the source of THC and CBD, but say little to prohibit very small quantities grown from hemp.

In case anybody is wondering what is all this about hemp, I suspect the original reason marijuana was outlawed in the 1930s was because of its relation to hemp, which was a significant competitor crop to fiber crops from which rope was made, and it was also better rope too...and edible crops of the grain variety, also a competitor to alcohol) because hemp is edible, so the agricultural industry got together and lobbied Congress very very hard to outlaw growing hemp, but then there needed to be some sort of a cover story that would make more political sense because the government doing that sounds pretty communist you know, so they came up with the big "reefer madness" story.

By the way you really have to see, anybody, have to see some of the reefer madness type movies from back then 30s into the 50s, they are really wild, like teenagers and young men and women taking one puff and immediately grabbing other people and starting to uncontrollably copulate with their clothes on and totally googly eyes and just uncontrollable like having a criminal seizure. (Who says Saturday Night Live didn't come along until the '70s?)

Hi Marion,

I'm not sure how I could rephrase question one because I am interested in the results that people have gotten from online CBD that is legal in all states, not from a medical marijuana dispensary which many states don't have.

The reason is because when talking to others about CBD, what I am finding is that they find the type that can be bought at medical marijuana dispensaries derived from cannabis to be more effective than hemp based products, but this type won't be available to everyone. So my interest lies with the type not purchased from legal medical marijuana dispensaries that would be available to every one.

So I am leaving out cannabis derived CBD, other than for comparison to hemp derived CBD and am interested in hemp derived CBD which seems to be legal everywhere in the US. I will try to figure out a way to reword question one to make it more clear.

Aren't you are asking multiple questions in number one that's the problem. Separate them out. You have several sources of CBD and thc, you need to have a separate question that pertains to each legally separated source. Then also you have CBD as one form of treatment, and THC as a separate source of treatment, and then you have those forms that are combined THC and CBD together. So you have as many as three sources times three forms equals potentially actually nine questions. Sorry but that is how it is if you don't want to sew confusion, you have to know that different sources immediately means different manufacturing methods and standards right there. And we haven't even begun to talk about the different "routes," which have dramatically different dose curve effects, all the way from near zero and minimum 2-hour onset, to immediate onset and face in the ceiling... Which now introduces two new variables (edible versus smoke), so nine becomes 18... Unless you include vaping, which is quite a bit different than smoking actually so 18 now becomes 36. If you're serious, cuz that's the variability that's out there for people to acquire and consume.

I revised question one to try and clarify it.

Okay I caught up until last comment, so you are restricting it to edibles, 30 mg CBD + 3 mg delta 9 thc, each edible never to exceed 0.3% Delta 9 THC by weight, all derived from hemp... I think that is what is legal nationwide by federal statute.

chartist in reply toMarionP

I am restricting it to " all CBD products " that can be legally purchased in all states.

Can hardly wait, I live in one of the most restrictive states and what I've been able to glean from the expensive pittance that I'm allowed to pursue has really been confusing... Plus the politics here makes me wonder if ever I try to get that very small amount from that allowed very limited source I won't get hounded and arrested anyway. So for the most part all I get to do is watch from afar and it has been one confusing deal let me tell you.

I've run into a lot of confusion on this issue so I'm hoping that some of the forum members have used CBD and can give their answers.

1. The legal stuff works ok, not near as good as the 20-1 mix. 20 cbd -1 THC tincture.

2. Anxiety relief is the most noticeable, stiffness help as well

3. Definitely, if you don’t see, benefit in one, don’t give up.

4. Never used online CBD

5. I’ve never used online CBD but I have used plain CBD that you can buy lots of different places. I live in the state it’s not really legal but it’s not really enforced either. I really think marijuana has gotten a bad rap personally. My mom was addicted to legal Xanax and legal oxytocin.

What you are saying is very similar to what I hear other people saying about CBD from both sources. Thank you for the results from your use of CBD.

Sorry to be confusing but I’ve never tried it. I tried some real high end ( expensive ) cbd and didn’t work near as well as the 20-1.

What does that term mean, "20-1"?

I use full spectrum CBD gummies and oil from Supreme CBD in UK. Currently taking 3000mg oil at bedtime and is great for sleep and my foot pain. Also helped with anxiety. The THC element is restricted to 0.2 % by law. I think you get what you pay for and this supplier is not cheap but does have deals and discounts quite a bit. It seems like the cheap and weak stuff sold around is a waste of time.

If looking turns into buying, try Fowler40 as a discount code under discounts and points. Generally works for big savings. Good luck

What does "full spectrum" mean?

Buckholt profile image
Buckholt in reply toMarionP

Taken from the Supreme CBD website:

Full-spectrum CBD is pure, unprocessed and unfiltered hemp extract. It contains all of the hemp plants nutrients such as cannabinoids, terpenes and essential oils. Full-spectrum may contain traces of THC however this will always be under 0.2%, which will not invoke a ‘high’ feeling. The key difference broad-spectrum and full-spectrum is that full-spectrum extracts may contain trace amounts of THC (under 0.2%), while broad-spectrum extracts have the THC completely removed. However, both broad and full-spectrum extracts feature hemp's wide array of cannabinoids, meaning that they both offer the entourage effect. Neither blend can invoke a 'high' feeling.

I take an edible that is a combination of CBD and CBN for sleep. So my answers below refer to the combo, not just the CBD part.

1. Definitely a benefit, but not all that long lasting - I developed a tolerance to it after 6 weeks. It's possible that the tolerance may be able to be managed by taking "tolerance breaks" every week or so.

2. Changes my sleep from 3 hours per night to 5-6 hours per night.

4. I would recommend to others.

CBN + CBD gives me better sleep than any non-prescription supplement, but not as much as any prescription sleep aid I've tried. Its advantage is that there are essentially no side effects with CBN.

What does "CBN" mean, I thought there was only CBT and THC?

chartist profile image
chartist in reply toMarionP

CBN is another component of hemp and cannabis and it has more sedative effect than CBD.

HI Art

I tried edible gummies that contain CBD only (for pain ) no THC but never found one that I could keep in my mouth very long with out a gag reflex so my wife found some topical skin cream made from Cannabis that was very effective treating pain. The problem is that the container is very small and cost $70 so it was used sparingly .

There is something that seems to not be common knowledge. The cannabinoides in topical cream made from Cannabis when applied externally do not enter the blood stream and do not get to the brain. If you ingest cannabis by including in food or smoking than they do.

If you only use it externally it does not show on any test because it is not there. Both CBD and THC have properties that help treat pain and both can be included in topical application with out fear of being "high".

I can legally grow two cannabis plants per adult to a maximum of 4 plants per house hold in my backyard, so I grew two. It was the easiest plant I ever grew . I harvested in the fall after reading about the care and harvesting and after drying it I made my own cream for rubbing onto my skin. Making the cream is simple , cannabis dissolves in oil not water so most use coconut oil because it is kind of solid at room temperature. I ground up the dried leaves and buds and put them in a double boiler with melted coconut oil in top and water in bottom (do not let temperature of oil go higher than 200 Deg F. ) for 10 hours .

My personal product was much superior to the purchased , much more effective plus I can use more because I filled 16 standard used skin cream jars of a size each would hold 6 of the purchased jars . Sixteen jars x 6 x $ 70 = a ridiculous number and a giant rip off of sick people in pain.

Be happy

This may not have answered your questions hahahahah because the best answer does not answer your questions . .Just make it , no one cares any more. and it is the only thing that I have found that helps with the pain and there have been no side effects that I have experienced and also no "highs ." but I may try a tiny bit in my tea at bedtime.

Marion, it means that people have been making and using this stuff for thousands of years without a single side effect identified . Nature's gift to humanity or Gods grace . Make some salve and treat yourself . Always remember that the governments kept it from us and how many people were imprisoned for having and using it so the governments could control and put down certain people they did not want around .

Hey Art,

First, thanks for all you do on the site sharing knowledge and your time.

I have tried numerous CBD product s, the legal type that you are asking about. I have never had any positive outcome, not even better sleep.. I spend a fair amount of money as it is not cheap. I believe I'm done--

except for something from a dispensary, possibly, if it seems like the right stuff, we will see. good luck.

I have heard similar reports from others. I don't know if it means that some people just get more benefit from CBD than others or that some brands are very significantly better than others or both?

Art,

My guess is some people do respond better than others, just like with PD meds, but I'm sure there are the usual evil geniuses that will rip off anyone whether it's supplements (which are not FDA approved) extra virgin olive oil, or CBD. Just a few of the endless list, shame.

My husband with PD - no tremor - is using a single CBD mint for abdominal pain after his daily suppository or enema. Constipation is his worst symptom. We live in a legal state (Oregon) and we buy from a dispensary which has superior cannabis products compared to hemp products found online (we've been told). His favorite dose is one mint that has 1 THC/40 CBD. It helps relax the gut and therefore helps with anxiety. It is pretty short lasting - only about 1-1/2 hours of effect - so it just takes the edge off. He also may use a 1 THC/5 CBD/5CBG with ginger occasionally for additionally gut support later in the day. We haven't tried the topical yet but are likely to do this for his leg pain. The super low THC dose does make him high at all. I tried 1/2 of a 1 THC/25 CBD mint once for a migraine and it worked but I felt a small buzz which was OK when I was outside walking but felt weird when I came back inside and wasn't moving - ha. I would modestly recommend them to others to try. (Mr. Moxey's Mints - cannabis version - they also sell a hemp version online which we haven't tried.)

Thank you very much for the feedback, threezees! My feedback from friends generally support the idea that cannabis derived CBD products seem to generally outperform products from hemp derived CBD. The downside is that many of the cannabis derived CBD products are not legal everywhere.
