Here is a new research into drugs "inactive ingredients" which has not surprised me. Even though there might be a vested interest which may make you question the report, this is something we should be aware of.

However, if excipients induce additional pathologies, will the medical and pharmaceutical economies not be boosted?

Absolutely! The side effects of inactive ingredients may give a reason to prescribe additional drugs... I know someone taking Aripiprazole for mental/mood disorder - well, the first inactive ingredient in one popular brand of this product is aspartame which is a neurotoxin!

There is a possibility that a person who might benefit from a medication might be reacting to an "inactive" ingredient and misleading the physician into discarding the use of that medication rather than seeking an alternative manufacturer.

This line of thought leads to a need for the "inactive" ingredients in generic formulations to be disclosed (Our pharmacist told us that the "inactive" ingredients are considered proprietary for generic drugs and may not be disclosed). Curiously, they are disclosed for the original (tested and patented) medication.

I had this conversation with one supplement company re magnesium stearate.

They told me quantity in the pill were well below allowable limits, and safe. I said that doesn't help when one is on ten other supplements which all use magnesium stearate. It is cumulitive.
