Elevated CK in Parkinson's patients blood tests

Some years ago when running a blood test my doctor was alarmed that my CK was over 400. However, it was never followed up and doctor thought that I worked too hard as a chef. I probably had overworked my muscles. In the years followed my CK level never dropped below 400. And I always had the pain in my muscles. I thought it was the Prednisone that I had taken for my asthma that caused my osteoporosis and muscle pain. I was referred to a rheumatologist and she urged me to do some biopsy of which I declined. I had EMG at hospital and the results showed that everything was normal. Then I was referred to a neurologist and found out that I have Parkinson's. I think those muscle pain were symptoms long before my diagnosis. I was curious to know if any of our PD patients ever had a blood test that showed elevated CK levels.

Creatine kinase (CK) is generally at elevated levels in PD and apparently levodopa, length of disease and heavy levels of exercise can be contributing factors, but your level over 400 seems way above the average for PWPs in general. It seems like your doctor should have followed up on your CK level.

A few other causes for elevated CK level are heart attack, muscle injury and too much alcohol.

I had a blood test last March and the only thing that stood out was slightly elevated creatine. Since I had been useing a creatine supplement before the gym I though that was why. Stopped creatine cold turkey but we’ll need to wait until early March for new blood test. I will run it by my PD Dr., never mentioned it to her.
