Dear Lynne,

Your procedure will open new vistas for you. I had the knee replacement and I was walking in 45 days and running in 6 months.

Make sure that you choose a qualified doctor. Some doctors are only putting up numbers.

Getting a good rehab is also important.

I will be your “greatest Fan.”

Hi Lynne, I too had a knee replacement and am happy to report that there are no reasons not to proceed! Just be sure that Everyone knows you have PD, your meds'n and the schedule, I took my own C/L to the hospital , my husband gave them to me on time every time. Talk with anesthesia about taking your meds pre op, have anesthesia that will hopefully permit you to keep on schedule, I had a femoral nerve block and a spinal. Keep us posted on your progress and make sure you have rehab scheduled for the day after you get home - the sooner the better. Best of luck to you

I've had both knees replaced since my Parkinson's diagnosis. Both went well. Make sure to follow up with the necessary rehab. As for the hospital, make sure they are informed about your medication! Also, icing your knee as much as possible. Ice is your knees friend! Good luck.

My over 60 PD husband has ended up with a cognitive decline after any hospitalization or surgery (even cataract surgery). He got 'Speech Therapy' (which is the discipline that deals with cognitive issues) and that was a big help in getting him almost back to baseline.

bend your knee AS MUCH AS YOU CAN AS SOON AS YOU CAN that will prevent a lot of pain later . I got in a wheel chair and rolled it toward the wall with my knee in front until I got to where I could touch the wall then when I sat down I would bend my leg back under me as far as I could .
