“You probably know that too many calories aren’t good for your waistline, but as it turns out, they aren’t good for your brain either.
According to research conducted by neuroscientist Mark Mattson and others, cutting your energy intake by fasting several days a week might help your brain ward off neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s while at the same time improving memory and mood.”
Not if you're borderline underweight or outright underweight, because the brain needs minimum amount of nutrients.
The assumption that shedding weight is good for everyone can't be right. I for one am on a weight gaining regime because with BMI 19, I'm close to being underweight
I think there’s such a thing as society ‘norms’ though. Clinical views seem to shift with time (such as years ago they wanted us to drink lots of milk which changed). Maybe in 50 years time what they describe as underweight May be considered healthy ?!
Grumpy, an alternative to regular fasting is intermittent fasting where you eat the same amount as usual but within an 8 hour window. The benefits are the same and most research says doing this just twice a week provides results. Here's a link to explain:
I eat between an 6-8 hour window. I do an occasional 24-48 hour fast. I feel better overall. I am also doing low carb as well. Hoping to prevent PD that my dad and uncle (mom's side) has. I am also more productive not thinking about eating or feeling hungry all the time. Sometimes I eat when I am hungry and not because of a clock.
