Balance

Had my first real balance issue. I mean major, any others if I noticed have been little. This one felt like a weight in my head tilting my head and pulling my body to one side. Kind of like tilting the world. Lasted about an hour I had to sit down and let it pass.

About 3 yrs diagnosed. Think smashing my shoulder and having two botched operations to replace it seems to have triggered it?

I am a Delay the Disease instructor. If you aren’t aware of this program for PWPs, please look it up.

You must exercise and practice every day. In order to have balance, you need to practice standing with a wide stance, taking big steps, doing calf raises to increase ankle mobility, walking with a heel strike first and then rolling through your toes... I could go on and on!

Find a trainer who is certified in Parkinson’s or find a good class in your area.

And - as someone already mentioned - check if your meds are affecting your balance as well.

Good luck!

Thank you, I do exercise every day with legs mostly from biking in 14-17 gear for 6 miles then elliptical with stride adjustment for another 2 miles.

Thankyou for your advice but I can only walk by myself when I know I am able to reach out to something as I am now terrified of falling and having to stay in hospital. I am also semi incontinent and worry about being a nuisance needing the toilet several times during the night.

Taking advice currently from Dr Constantini has have been taking thiamine since approx April with no significant improvement with any PD symptoms apart from ease of constipation. He has started me on 500mg daily for 3 weekly periods,I have just been instructed to increase to 1gram daily and to keep him informed.
