I’m 76 years old diagnosed six years ago but first symptoms 25 years ago with loss of smell. At that time they didn’t put it together that it may be the beginning of Parkinson’s disease. I am on pretty heavy doses of Sinemet, having to take two tablets of 25/100 every two hours. Symptoms well under control. Dys comes when wear off begins. Quite manageable. About two months ago I started getting shortness of breath during wear off and suspected some sort of cardio pulmonary problems due to my age and prior history of cardiovascular disease. I have several stents in my heart But have a been symptomatic since the surgery. Dr. Performed a cardiac and geography which turned out to be perfectly normal. My research revealed that some people get this symptom as a result of the muscles in the chest Ie The rib cage and the diaphragm going into some sort of spasm that’s a result of lack of dopamine. Has anybody experience something similar? My Nuro is recommending bilateral DBS For this condition. Only problem is we don’t know if it’s going to take care of the problem. When my sinemet is working I can keep up with sports with 50 year olds For shortness of breath wakes me up but every two hours and combined with having to urinate four times per night makes me quite unhappy the next day. Insurance I’m lot an insomniac I would be grateful for any comments or thoughts

I have what the doctor calls Essential Tremor in my jaw. What interested me in your post was that you get shortness of breath through your rib cage and diaphragm going into spasm - am I right? I have not got Parkinsons but I do get that type of spasm and found it interesting that you said it's due to a lack of dopamine? It made me wonder.
I wouldn't call it a spasm, because I can't feel the muscle(s)moving on their own, rather it just feels my inspiration is not deep enough. incidentely, , my blood oxygen saturation mains at 98%,
I have shortness of breath. The doctors say paralyzed phrenic nerve causing one lung to be low capacity. I must be on supplemental oxygen 24 hours a day. Have your oxygen level checked. Low oxy is hazardous to your health.
Parkinson's disease (PD) patients apart from motor dysfunctions exhibit respiratory disturbances. Their mechanism is still unknown and requires investigation. Our research was designed to examine the activity of phrenic (PHR) and hypoglossal (HG) nerves activity during a hypoxic respiratory response in the 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) model of PD. The altered pre-inspiratory hypoglossal nerve activity indicates modifications to the central mechanisms controlling the activity of the HG nerve and may explain respiratory disorders seen in PD,
