Deep brain stimulation (DBS)

There was a post to the technical paper in Nature Medicine a few weeks ago about an innovation to traditional DBS. Adaptive DBS involves putting in brain sensors to automatically increase or reduce the amount of stimulation.

My neurologist has recommended for DBS . As per the data ,I am informed that the success rate is 90%.Here also the neurologists are divided in two. Few says that medicine will continue even after DBS while other say no.

The downside was a loss of balance which is not addressed by the DBS, unfortunately. So now I’d like more information about the pacemaker for Parkinson’s because I’m tired of falling over and breaking various bones.

It feels like my DBS surgery is getting nearer. I have an appointment for a pre-op on Sunday and was wondering if anyone knows what to expect?Is there anything I should prepare for? Cheers

Also been offered DBS done all the tests and stuff but wanted to try apomorphine before DBS. the AbbVie levodopa pump is only available if you are not suitable for DBS due to it being a new expensive treatment. which i find surprising i would've thought DBS is the last option. thanks guys

Last falI had been incredibly impressed by the moderator of the DBS Facebook page in his responses, and I thought If I can be as well-spoken as he is 25 years after I’ve had DBS like he is, so I decided to proceed with the surgery. The surgery did not go well.

I am planning to go through a DBS surgery in near future. I believe there are two brands supplying the devices - Boston Scientific - Medtronix Can someone refer me to some literature where two devices are compared for directional rechargeable type?

I was diagnosed with PD 11 yrs ago.i had DBS two years ago which, if nothing else has stopped my tremor and weight loss (20-25) pounds.

As some of you know, I had DBS about a year ago which some will point to as being the culprit but I don’t believe that this is the case.

Hi everyone My husband had DBS done a 1 1/2 years ago. Very successful for him , he doesn’t take any medication anymore but I found that he is slowing down. I saw that there has been studies on mucana supplements.

My neurologist is recommending that I have a DBS surgery to deal with my symptoms. He indicated that overtime medication is less effective and this is my best option. I’m hopeful that some who have had it will share their experience. For example, how long did the surgery take?

The neurologist is suggesting dbs and doesn't seem interested in working with the meds anymore. My husband doesn't want dbs, and I am trying to find out what do people do when meds don't work anymore? What else can be done that's not invasive? Thanks for any help 🙏
