Has anyone use Sulbutiamine?

I understand that there are some side effect with sulbutiamine vs Thiamine HCi. However, it is more bio-available.

Has anyone with PD tried this? I was looking at this as a kick start for my father along with Thiamine HCi. Maybe just for the 1st dosage and then switch to thiamine hci. Maybe put that in once a week after that.

Thank you.

Besides those deliberately overdosing, what are the side effects of Sulbutiamine? How low doses of Sulbutiamine fair against large doses of Thiamine HCI? The truth is there are no real side-by-side comparison studies to make any safe conclusions.

However, regarding PD symptoms I doubt your father will feel any considerable effect by taking just 1 single dose of Sulbutiamine.

The typical dosage with Sulbutiamine in most studies is 400mg-600/day and studies lasted 1-2 months

In a study with MS patients 400mg Sulbutiamine was administered for 2 months, it was well tolerated by all and no serious side effects were reported.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/2...

In a study of 1,772 patients (non-randomised) with infections and chronic fatigue, sulbutiamine (200mg twice a day) for 15 days (along with anti-infective treatment) side effects occurred in 10 (0.6%), patients and well being improved significantly. Patients with complete resolution of all asthenic symptoms were 916.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/147...

Thiamine hydrochloride is of low bioavailability estimated between 3.7% and 5.3%. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

The pharmaceutical company Les laboratories Servier, the developer of sulbutiamine with the brand name Arcalion, holds double-blind studies and patents for the treatment of PD with sulbutiamine since 1996. patents.google.com/patent/U...

Notable positive effects with sulbutiamine include: increased energy, reduced fatigue, enhanced cognition.

Personally if I opted for testing the efficacy of each compound, I would avoid mixing both. I would rather separately take 400mg Sulbutiamine for a few weeks and observe for positive effects, if no positives I would switch to thiamine HCI after consultation with Dr Costantini. Hypothetically once condition is stabilized breaks are possible with Sulbutiamine or a lower maintenance dose. Therefore may not need to take it everyday.

Mind both Sulbutiamine and large doses of thiamine have not been evaluated for long term treatment of PD besides promising results from preliminary studies.

Thank for the information. My dad just started 2 grams B1 HCi. Have not notice any difference yet. I will increase dosage to 3g next week and see if there is any change. May switch after 2 months if no change.

He is 146 lb and 5'8" (was much heavier and taller). 79 yrs old but will be 80 soon. He has signs of PD since 60 and diagnosed at 61 retire at 62.
