That "something else" per most doctors would be dopamine agonists. I think you have got a pretty good doctor as it is for not pushing those. I recommend you try working with the current doctor and see if he or she will prescribe you an MAO-B inhibitor such as Azilect or selegiline.

If your doctor is not a specialist in movement disorders, then he is right to be cautious but surely better placed than a non medic to make some helpful suggestions as to the way forward as regards seeking other advice? The following info. might be of some use:
From the FDA advice via drugs.com re carbidopa/levodopa (Sinemet), assuming y our tablets are not just levodopa on its own which is not usual as far as I know these days.
"Usual Initial Dosage
Dosage is best initiated with one tablet of Sinemet 25-100 three times a day. This dosage schedule provides 75 mg of carbidopa per day. Dosage may be increased by one tablet every day or every other day, as necessary, until a dosage of eight tablets of Sinemet 25-100 a day is reached.
If Sinemet 10-100 is used, dosage may be initiated with one tablet three or four times a day. However, this will not provide an adequate amount of carbidopa for many patients. Dosage may be increased by one tablet every day or every other day until a total of eight tablets (2 tablets q.i.d.) is reached.""
A generic (ie cheaper) version of Azilect is available (called rasagilene in the UK) and is designed to help your system make better use of the dopamine you have.
