Mucuna pruiriens and Vit C

22 days of reading my way through the forum entries and now have my first question.

Only recently diagnosed and intending to take the alternative medicine route.

My question is - Is there a good reason why i cannot mix my daily requirement of MP powder and my Vit. C powder together add water (or other non-protein liquid)and sip it through the day??

I would be very interested to know if this is a possibility or a complete flight of fancy.

I can't see why not. In fact it seems a good way to spread out the benefit of the powder. Let us know how it works for you.

That was my thinking to be honest.

I think the following articles will answer your question:

researchgate.net/publicatio...

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/914...

So my understanding is that its not such a daft idea but I wont pretend to begin to understand the science which is always part of the problem while trying to follow the alternative medicine route but i have been following your posts with interest and am in the process of trying to adapt your information to my needs.

Good for you. Remember that doctors are working within the confines of the ‘current wisdom’, ie, what is approved by the medical establishment at the present time. They must, in order to stay within the scientific method and also to avoid lawsuit.

There is wisdom beyond what is available to them. Access it, evaluate it and follow my old time doctor’s advice...’if it doesn’t hurt you, try it’.

I think of all the discussions I’ve had with doctors for thirty years over the ideas of using vitamin E for heart health, zinc and C for colds, fish oils, b vitamins, magnesium, the dangers of statins and the stupidity of a low fat diet! All rejected then but widely accepted now.

Being vindicated is a good feeling!

Be strong, read, use your common sense, get an open minded doctor. Ask him the question, ‘Will it hurt me?’ Can it make me worse?’ If he is intellectually honest, he’ll answer..even if he has to plead ignorance... and furthermore, he should thank you for bringing the idea to his attention.

My info apex was when I learned niacin controlled hallucinations and told every doctor I spoke with. They were all stunned, most appreciative of the knowledge, but the sad fact is they will never use it to treat anyone other than their families....it hasn’t and won’t be tested because it cannot be patented. Not some sort of malevolent trick, just the way it is.

You may not be able to understand all the details in a study but you can always understand the section marked, ‘conclusions’.

Read my posts here for a head start. We have done everything- but DBS (not for gait problems...yet). some things helped, some didn’t.

Thank you for your support; I will check out your posts with interest. Being in Scotland means dealing with whatever doctor you are allocated by NHS going privately with an ‘open-ended’ condition such as PD would be prohibitive and involve selling. dogs and kids to highest bidder!

What dose of niacin works for hallucinations? Could you be more specific please. I am asking for my brother. Thank you. Dianne

Google Abraham Hoffner and schizophrenia and niacin. Easy to read and understand.

I've read Abram Hoffer's books, he was a brilliant doctor, so I tried his protocol of niacin 3000 mg/day on one of my family members, but unfortunately it didn't work. I think it depends on person's methylation status and works for people who are overmethylated, because niacin acts like a sponge for methyl groups, but may not work for undermethylators.

That may be right. I am sure that hallucinations must come from a variety of reasons. My husband already took large doses of b complex but even so, when he found himself in that particular situation of using an MAOI , he no longer had enough of the niacin (B3) to counteract the adrenachrome. He was also a very excitable, fight or flight type A person. After six months the MAOI dissipated and we dropped off the niacin and just used the b complex. One point I wanted to make was that it may be the hallucinations attributed to PD might not always be the disease but meds, particularly the anti depressants that are often used.

I was totally shocked when I went online and saw the numbers of people who all had exactly the same hallucination...not PDs, just in general. They are so common there is a name for it...parasychosis...not sure of the spelling and can’t go off the page for fear of dropping everything. It’s a combination of parasite and psychosis....every little speck is a bug, they collect them in little containers to be tested (the test invariably show nothing) to more serious thinking that veins in the hands are worms that have to be cut out, a little fatty deposit is ‘one of them’ and has to be excised, body hair has to come off...it’s not really theirs. There’s a lot of cutting going on.

Odd isn’t it?

We started with MP with good effect. One neurologist check with her holistic counterpart who said, sure he can use it. The neurologist in Boston, did not want it used as it used up the existing Dopamine faster. So using pharmaceuticals. Any one have different, info?

Mucuna whole herb...useless. Mucuna EXTRACT works beautifully. I do 1350 mgs five times daily with one gram vit c with it to eliminate any nausea. Was almost bedridden 2.5 years, 100 per cent dependent, couldn't talk 2 years...Mucuna extract got my functionality fully back in 5 days. I get my Mucuna from Nutrivita.
