Good Foods/ Bad Foods

In your personal experience what foods do you tend to avoid as they seem to worsen your symptoms and what foods do you feel ok about eating.

Personally for me

Avoid if possible

milk (especially skimmed and semi-skimmed)

Porridge also - though that might be because of the milk

chocolate :-(

peas

Wine

These seem ok:

Older cheeses

Beer (especially ale) in moderation

Pork products e.g. bacon

Brassicas ie. Broccoli, Cabbage, Sprouts

Avocados

What exactly is the problem eating ages cheese with PD ?

Not sure - it might be to do with the interaction with PD medicines than intrinsically itself. If you work better with low carbs than carbs ( and I do - as the orthostatic hypotension is immediately noticeable if I do excessive carbs -especially in the morning).

Aged cheese contains tyramine which could elevate blood pressure in combination with MAO-B inhibitors, same as with wine, tap beer, cabbage, sauerkraut, soybean products and cured, air dried meats or fish. Eat with moderation. Proteins block absorption of levodopa. Hope this helps.
