Amenic

I think there’s a pattern here although I don’t understand it. I also had a lack of iron. My

PC doc though I had bleeding somewhere and sent me for lots of tests. All came back negative. I started taking iron pills and vitamin B12

Eventually I wasn’t amenic. I was so surprised to read that someone else had the same issue. Could this be related to Parkinson ? I have no idea.

Am I right in thinking L Dopa treatment can reduce Vit B12 levels?

I’m not on L Dopa . I was taking Miraplex but no longer. I’m not taking any PD meds.

I have been anemic for years, even prior to my PD diagnosis. My GP also founds nothing wrong

I wonder if there a connection between anemia and Pd. Any research ? It appears not to be a common symptom. I’m not sure.

Are you thinking the anaemia causes the PD or vice versa? My PD started around the same time my iron levels dropped so low I had to have an iron transfusion. I've searched for a connection but havnt been able to find one.

I already had been diagnosed with PD went this occurred. So it did cause my PD. I hope you are feeling better and your iron level has stabilized.

One has nothing to do with the other one. Iron deficiency anemia is either one doesn't take sufficient iron or is losing the iron by occult bleeding. As we get older and our diet changes we tend not to ingest sufficient iron and iron deficiency anemia sets in. Yearly check up should include a complete blood count and iron deficiency anemia can be diagnosed

Thank you Tato for your informative reply. You cleared up my thinking that the two were related. Good to know.

Thanks again. Are you a medical person ? This is a good forum where people helpeach other.

There is a condition called Pernicious anemia which could give you some symptoms that could appear to be Parkinson's.

Thank you for the comprehensive information. What I can deduce is that I had the garden variety of anemia. I’ve gone for yearly tests. It was a surprise that all of a sudden I was anemic . Again thank you for the material. You sent. It’s a lot to digest.
