I dont have problems falling asleep but about 4-5 hours into the night i wake up and have trouble falling back asleep. I eventually fall asleep after 1-3 hours of being awake and when i do return to sleep i sleep for another 1 1/2 hours.

i have tried chamomile tea, art cherry juice, dark room, i use a fan to block noise.

i usually wake up to use the rst room. I am very uncomfortable and have a lot of pain in my elbows or shoulders that is one of the reasons I have trouble going back t sleep.

PLEASE advice me , so tired of not sleeping well.

i take 2 C/L at 8am, 1pm and 6 pm.

Are you using immediate release or controlled release ("CR") C/L? Try the CR version if not using already.

Valerian root helps me sleep. I take 3 capsules (1500 mg) right before bed. Warning - it has a bad smell even in capsules.

I have the same problem and from what others says it's pretty common with PD, but that's no great comfort at 4 a.m.. Everybody seems to find a different way to deal with this. I've been taking a dose of sinemet at bedtime plus ibuprofen for pain, as I also have shoulder and arm pain. But that helps getting to sleep not necessarily staying asleep.

I feel so awful if I don't get enough sleep so if I don't get back to sleep within an hour or less I will take half a Xanax, which is 25 mg. This always seems to work unless I'm stressed about something. In fact if I have anything on my mind, and who amongst us doesn't, I am especially prone to waking up in the early morning hour or staying awake after using the bathroom. I am getting more and more protective of myself in regards to stress. I am not equipped to deal with it.

Nick Littlehales book called 'Sleep' really easy reading , he talks a lot of sense , my husband who has had PArkinsons for 11 years found lots of useful info and because he doesn't worry now if he wakes up he sleeps so much better - hope that makes sense !!

Yes, this happens to me and it's really annoying, I used to sleep for England. No trouble falling off, eyes wide open at 4am. I still work, albiet part time, so need my faculties! No one thing helps, it's a combination, but melatonin (taken when I wake up in the middle of the night), and while I wait for it to take effect I get up and have some tea. I do find that if I nap for just ten minutes later in the day, it resets my body clock and I'm good to go again. Not always easy when you work but I'm resourceful - my car is in a car park away from my office so I sometimes pop over at lunchtime for a snooze. Seriously, it does make all the difference.

I use melatonin, it works fine.

I am still working on the all night thing..... 6 hours straight is the best I can do and that is lucky.

Hi all. I have the same sleep problem and have had no luck with melatonin. I go to work tired. I come home at lunch hour because it is close and I fall to sleep and that short nap energizes me. I know sleep is so important but it could be worse. I take 2 C/L three times a day and one comtan in the morning.

This is my biggest struggle with Parkinsons. However, I got put on Trazadone to help me (there of course is good reason this was chosen over other stuff). First 2 weeks were amazing - knocked me out and I slept right through and felt almost Parkinsons free.

After that, less effective as I might still wake during the night but still much less frequently and quickly get back to sleep. Before I was on it, once I was awake that was it for the night, often after just 2-3 hours sleep. I often lay awake for 4-5 hours just hoping to fall back asleep but now I'm back asleep in 10-15 minutes. Still get tired and this damn condition is back to being ever with me but I'm much better able to cope.

Whether the potential of Trazadone for halting Parkinsons is ever realised I don't know but at least I'm benefiting now from it.
