Well, it's the big news at the moment! (until the next big news). Has anybody, does anybody know of anybody who's had one of these, for what reason (may not have been for PD) and what were the results?
Faecal transplant: Well, it's the big news... - Cure Parkinson's
Faecal transplant
I had to look up what it was. For those like me here is a quick explanation from Wikipedia:
"involves restoration of the colonic microflora by introducing healthy bacterial flora through infusion of stool, e.g. by enema, orogastric tube or by mouth in the form of a capsule containing freeze-dried material, obtained from a healthy donor. "
With all the talk lately about the gut bacteria affecting PD I can understand that this may be a treatment for PD.
I heard about this a year or so pre diagnosis and thought how awful it seemed. Now less than 12 months later I'm trying to find a place that does it. How life turns.
So far I have only found the faecal testing places who charge Aud $750 to do the test. They look a bit shonky. I doubt the neuro will be helpful either. Bit alternative for him.
I think that the problem now is that whilst they know it comes from the gut, there are about a billion possible culprits. They presumably now have to determine the good guys from the villain. Complicated and challenging but not impossible with time. Then again, it's maybe yet another 'breakthrough' that one finds on the shelf labelled 'breakthroughs that produced nothing practically'? I hope it all materialises but - like all PB sufferers - am well aware of the number of previous breakthroughs whilst in essence, nothing has really changed in 40 years! (ever the optimist).
