Does anyone knows, scientifically, if there is reaction, positive or negative, between grapefruit and Sinemet? Love the juice but .....?
Grapefruit fruit & Sinemet: Does anyone... - Cure Parkinson's
Grapefruit fruit & Sinemet
That is unfortunate , because you can not have it any more, ever.
The relationship between grapefruit and medications is very well scientifically understood and documented. The warnings clear. It interacts in several ways, the main two possible interactions being:
- a very quick and uncontrolled increase in the drugs strength / absorption to toxic levels
- a complete blockage of the medication absorption in the bowels that can last a very very long time after you take the grapefruit.
Try prune juice , a nice big glass every day, healthy in so many ways.
NO more grapefruit for you
( anything that you can not put in JELLO can not be good for you anyway)
Here is list of grapefruit - drug interactions: cmaj.ca/content/suppl/2012/...
Whenever starting a new drug, always check interactions both using an interaction checker such as the one at drugs.com: drugs.com/drug_interactions... and by a general internet search on "new drug" "existing drug 1...n", for each existing drug, where grapefruit is included as one of them.
AFAIK grapefruit does not interact with my particular meds and I do have some from time to time.
I don't know about sinemet, but I know you can't eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while taking nilotinib, because it magnifies the effect to a dangerous level. I don't know if it has that same effect with other meds.
Thanks all. Guess that's the end of grapefruit for me, why play Russian roulette? I just squeezed 4 gallons. As for the advice of GymBag are you aware of the amount of sugar in prune juice? When you get to certain age sugars are very bad.
Hi Robertio. If you Google, Parkinson's, Mdication and grapefruit you will find that it is contraindicated.
Thanks, have to dump 4 gallons of recently squeezed juice (have 4 tree full of fruits)
