Would someone let me know how this mineral helps and/or where I might find research about it? Actually, your experiences are better than research most of the time! Thanks, all.

Magnisum is an electrolye mineral,necessary for life. I have noticed a decrease in all electrlytes with my medication especially when its hot,i drink milk , sports drink or mortons lite salt. Decreases ridgidness caused by some contractions

Magnesium is a muscle relaxant and is therefore good for rigidity problems. It should also help anxiety and sleep. A Parkinson's nutritionist recommended magnesium MALATE to me. There are different sorts of magnesium. You can buy it in tablet form or as a spray,. The spray is useful for cramp. Some people find it can give them loose bowels, so good for constipation! Beware however, too much magnesium can increase the symptoms you want to reduce, but you should be safe if you stick to the recommended dose. Epsom salt baths are magnesium too. Personally I wouldn't be without it. We are ALL deficient in magnesium these days because we are not getting it in our diet because the land has been overworked and no longer has the mineral in it. Almonds, spinach, pumpkin seeds and chocolate are a good source, but you would need to eat bucket loads to achieve the recommended dose which is about 400mg.

I agree, Dap, my bloodwork showed I was very mag. deficient. Since then, I have been taking mag. malate 180mg, 2 or 3 times/day. Also, had 2 magnesium IV infusions. I went in with a headache, concerned about getting (any!) IV with a pre-existing headache, and they said the mag. infusion would be great for my headache,...and yes, it was :) It was so relaxing that I nodded off in the chair, IV going (both times) lol They said that was the mag. effects, which I agree with.

Mag. helps with my muscle cramping and I notice that when I don't take it daily, my muscle cramps return. I am very happy to take my mag. malate until further notice!

Too much mag means more trips to the toilet, I read it's difficult to take too much as the body rejects it.

That happens to most people apparently but not to me. When I overdosed I became very anxious, experienced all over cramp followed by full body shaking. Most unpleasant.

that's wonderful... but shouldn't magnesium be taken with calcium at prescribed ratio...can't recall ratio but think it's 3 to one, magnesium, other way around?

magnesium malate, do I need prescription?

Magnesium deficiency means brittle bones. More chance of breaks if you fall.

Do you take omeprazole for acid reflux? It can cause mag def.

Or it could be your stomach acid isn't up to the task of breaking down your food properly, supplement with betaine HCl. It will help with absorbing more minerals from your food.

You should be able to find a mag supplement no problem. But also consider ionic magnesium. It's in liquid form and more easily absorbed. Tastes horrible but mixed with a drink it goes down fine.

Epsom salts are magnesium so treat yourself to a few soaks. There are also magnesium oils you can use.

I would suggest buying a book on the subject.

you're talking about enzymes..betaine is one I believe is found in green papaya, or is that, in pineapple and papain is found in papaya. anyways I discovered systemic enzymes, am very excited about this. enzymes do everything! google it, worth your trouble.

A nurse told me about it. I take a magnesium and potassium aspartate supplement from Douglas Laboratory...wwdouglaslab.com...1800 245 4440. It is a dependable and good source for supplements. It has 90mg of each. It does help with muscle pain and stiffnes. I usually take it at bedtime, But I have taken it in the morning too, when I'm in pain. If you take too much then you will be running to the bathroom, just lower the dose. Hope this helps.
