RLS DIAGNOSISo
Hi there. Like you I also had a sleep study done about 12 months ago and the result was that I experienced very marked RLS. Since that time my physician started me on Madopar 62.5 to assist the RLS- I personally think it has helped, although I am not sure that my husband would agree!!!! Good luck. Cheers Bindi X X
My wife's RSL and calf cramps have been two of the most distressing symptoms of her PD, disturbing her sleep - and mine- virtually every night. Her neurologist initially suggested using Repinerole as her main drug, but when she tried this after her diagnosis she suffered awful nausea and stopped this drug almost immediately. She switched to Sinamet CR, which seems to work well for her, after adjustments she made herself in the dose and the timing of taking the medication. However, RSL and cramps progressively became more difficult to tolerate, so we were looking for another solution to deal with this.
Recently, her new neurologists prescribed Neupro transdermal patch to deal with the RSL and cramp, which deliverers Rotgotine (2mg/24hrs), a very similar dopamine agonist to Ropinorole. To help stop any nausea, they put her on Domperidone for four days before starting the Neupro patch and she then continued with Domperidone three times a day for a couple of weeks, before weaning herself off Domperidone by reducing the dose to twice a day for a couple of days, then one dose per day for another couple of days before stopping altogether.
The good news is that she has had no nausea and, best of all, hardly any symptoms of RSL or cramp. The results are good enough to confirm that this is being an effective treatment. To prove the point, last night she was so tired she forgot to put on a patch after an exhausting day travelling back from a holiday abroad. She woke me twice, at about 2.30am and 4.15am, with bad cramp in her calf.
We can all cope better with the challenges of life if we regularly have a good night's sleep and so much more so for a PwP. I hope that the solution that seems to be working for my wife may also work for you and others with similar symptoms.
Requip works better for RLS than Sinemet. For me Sinemet causes RLS not help it. Requip stops it completely.
I use Clonazapam for REM but I understand its primary use is for RLS.
I take requip only at night for RLS works good
My mistake. Jerky this morning
