Does anyone have experience with the double wammy? I read that 50% of Parkinsons Disease (PD) patients also have Restless Legs Syndrome. Since the principal treatment for PD appears to be dopamine agonists such as pramipexole I wonder if most of these patients soon augment or if there is some fundamental difference between "stand alone" RLS and RLS associated with Parkinson's that prevents augmentation or if the unlucky patients with both can't get away from the dopamine agonists and just have to suffer? I have read many times that RLS does not automatically lead to Parkinson's

Parkinson's and RLS at the same time.
"In most cases, the cause of RLS is unknown. However, RLS often runs in families and specific gene variants have been associated with the condition. Low levels of iron in the brain also may be responsible for RLS. RLS also may be related to a dysfunction in a part of your brain that controls movement."

I'm interested in the coincidence of the two diseases. At the moment the Parkinsons is treated with a dopamine agonist at high doses and this at lower doses used to be for RLS as well. But if you have RLS then this would result in very painful augmentation so is there an alternative treatment for the Parkinsons that won't cause augmentation of the RLS?
I am sorry to say I do not know. My husband was only having RLS once in a while and we got a supplement and he took it and it made it go away. He is not taking it every day. He was starting to have RLS one day when he took a brief nap so he took the supplement and it helped. It is a homeopathic capsule.

Can you please tell me the dosage, how many and how often, that your husband used? My husband had restless legs for years before diagnoses but it has got steadily worse, and the only suggestion from his neurologist was hi strength codein tablets, which hard.y touched the problem but gave him horrendous constipation…….We’ve tried all the self help ideas, but nothing seems to touch it.Greatful thanks,
I developed RLS 6 months ago.
It was a nightmare. Didn't sleep some nights.
Began pramipexol (Sifrol) .75 mg before bed. Worked a treat.
Nothing was said to me re addiction or augmentation.
I'm going to ask my neurologist if I can wean off soon.
I am worried about this for my dad.
I had it when I was pregnant years ago but then it went away. I put it down to hormones. Maybe it was some deficiency although I was fanatical about eating properly.
Means husband with parkinsons. RLS became worse as PD became more symptomatic.
