Withania is great for parkinsons, its a herb used by native indians to treat people with parkinsons disease. You can get it at health food shops.
Withania: Withania is great for parkinsons... - Cure Parkinson's
Withania
Yes, it is widely known as Ashwagandha ; in Sanskrit : vedic Language : Ashwa means Horse , it can deliver Horse -power, know more about it : easyayurveda.com/2014/06/22... and another effective herb is Kapi Kachu ( Indian Mucana - Natural L-Dopa ), very effective for PD
Mucuna Pruriens is also a treatment that has been used in India for centuries to treat Parkinsons and does very well with the shaking that RLS produces. I've been on bis-glycinate (Ferrochel Iron) and Mucuna Pruriens (in the form of Zandopa and 40% Mucuna) for a good while now. Although I must get up in the middle of the night to take another dose, I'm getting four hours good sleep with each dose I take. A typical night's rest from RLS symptoms is 8 hours' total sleep with a 30-minute "break" while the next dose takes affect. I can give you details and sources if your are interested.
Yes, I've been using Zandopa for over a year and swear by it.
Dear Stevie3,
I am researching the best route for my mom, and she is nervous about taking the "homeopathic" path. Have you been able to work with a doctor's involvement with Zandopa or do you self regulate?
Many thanks, and I would greatly appreciate any wisdom/advice you might have as to what to do in the beginning stages. My mom is 79yrs, she exercises a lot, but has had some balance/falling. She has no sense of smell and seems to be having a little bit more challenge in assembling her thoughts/words, but nothing extreme.
Thank you and best wishes,
Sarah
Oh it's worth a look see at least great stuff anything at all that will help😉
Is this used in conjunction with drugs, Sinemet for example?
I think it should be ok its a natural herb , but ask your pharmasist or chemist, or even your doctor, also magnesium excellent.
"OK......it's a natural herb" - I wish I had a pound for every time I have heard/read this misleading, well intentioned expression. Many of the most potent & potentially dangerous drugs in use today have been produced by modifying natural herbs. Even in their natural state many herbs are contra-indicated with conventional drugs. St John's Wort is good example, when used with some anti-depressants.
Thanks for the advice to consult professionals our health is too precious to make ill-informed decisions.
I did use Zandopa with ropinirole at first, but then decided to get off the drug. I went through withdrawal from ropinirole, which was pretty bad. Then I went to natural L-Dopa--in the form of Zandopa and natural Mucuna Pruriens, a 40% concentration of L-Dopa. I use 4- 40% capsules of L-Dopa along with iron in the form of Ferrochel. You can experiment with what would work for you. Ferrochel is bis-glycinate which is the only form of iron that I am aware of that can cross the blood-brain barrier and get to work supporting our brain's anemic status.
Not a single comment as to what this herb does, other than its 'good for Parkinson's. ' NOT VERY HELPFUL
Here's a couple of links although I'm not convinced enough to add it to my ever burgeoning shopping list of supplements.
Not without risks this one:
Functional and Morphological Correlates in the Drosophila LRRK2 loss-of-function Model of Parkinson's Disease: Drug Effects of Withania somnifera (Dunal) Administration
By: De Rose, Francescaelena; Marotta, Roberto; Poddighe, Simone; et al.
PLOS ONE Volume: 11 Issue: 1 Article Number: e0146140 Published: JAN 4 2016
The common fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster (Dm) is a simple animal species that contributed significantly to the development of neurobiology whose leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 mutants (LRRK2) loss-of-function in the WD40 domain represent a very interesting tool to look into physiopathology of Parkinson's disease (PD). Accordingly, LRRK2 Dm have also the potential to contribute to reveal innovative therapeutic approaches to its treatment. Withania somnifera Dunal, a plant that grows spontaneously also in Mediterranean regions, is known in folk medicine for its anti-inflammatory and protective properties against neurodegeneration. The aim of this study was to evaluate the neuroprotective effects of its standardized root methanolic extract (Wse) on the LRRK2 loss-of-function Dm model of PD. To this end mutant and wild type (WT) flies were administered Wse, through diet, at different concentrations as larvae and adults (L+/A(+)) or as adults (L-/A(+)) only. LRRK2 mutants have a significantly reduced lifespan and compromised motor function and mitochondrial morphology compared to WT flies 1% Wse-enriched diet, administered to Dm LRRK2 as L-/A(+) and improved a) locomotor activity b) muscle electrophysiological response to stimuli and also c) protected against mitochondria degeneration. In contrast, the administration of Wse to Dm LRRK2 as L+/A(+), no matter at which concentration, worsened lifespan and determined the appearance of increased endosomal activity in the thoracic ganglia. These results, while confirming that the LRRK2 loss-of-function in the WD40 domain represents a valid model of PD, reveal that under appropriate concentrations Wse can be usefully employed to counteract some deficits associated with the disease. However, a careful assessment of the risks, likely related to the impaired endosomal activity, is required.
Thanks for sharing. Happy to look into anything that may help with this disease!
Thank you, moonel60, for your research. You have my "heart" when it comes to searching for something OTHER THAN drugs to alleviate symptoms of Parkinsons (and possibly treat RLS). Those who approach your information with such negative responses before a positive investigation of a natural substance deserve their drug treatments which lead at best to temporary relief but eventually no where and often will leave poor sufferers worse off than when they were first diagnosed. My opinion is that God gave us what we need for good health and to help treat diseases. I have never liked prescription drugs. They are foreign substances to the body, and the body will eventually break down in certain areas under a constant barrage of drugs. Just read through the side affects of most drug sheets. And read the testimonies on this blog of folks who have had to increase and increase and increase prescription drugs for their issue, then discover at the "end" that they hit a brick wall. I've always been in favor of finding a natural solution to a physical problem. I say, bless you, moonel60!
I agree. My use of Sinemet is the reason i have Dystonia attacks daily now. This side effect is way worse than dealing with PD. Modern medicine has just as many "risks" if not more in my opinion.
SuperMNew I have pondered why some of us have negative responses to alternative efforts in taking care of symptoms.
I think some of us, myself included, did not really want to get well. Being ill has it's benefits. Mine was, I don't want to get well because then I won't have a reason to take good care of myself.
That was an eye opener!!
Also many of us have great anxiety. That may be another reason for hostile responses. High anxiety is an awful thing!!
Now that I know I want to get well, will try almost anything!
Hypnosis, accupuncture, invertion table. In fact my invertion table
is being put together today. I can hardly wait to see if it will help with dizziness.
I will report back.
Enjoy the day!!
Love, Eva Gabrielle
An inversion table??? I had never thought of that. Please let usknow if that helps. Strange as it may seem, I traveled south from where I live quite a ways some months ago to stay overnight and tour the next day. Interesting that I DID NOT HAVE ONE BIT OF TROUBLE with my legs that night! (I have trouble every night!) I looked up the altitude and discovered that where I traveled to was considerably lower in altitude than where I live. Wondering if that had an impact? Similarly, your inversion table...wondering if changing gravitational pull on the body and legs for a time will make a difference. Let us all know!!
12stargate, I'm researching something on past threads and came upon this post of yours. I missed it originally. I just want to tell you that I so admire your honesty! I, too, have asked myself if I really want to get well. You are right, being ill does have its benefits. For me, my soul searching led to yes, I want to get well but I'm afraid of having to get back out in the rat race to support myself. It was so exhausting! I'm asking God to heal me, give me abundant energy, and give me a way to support myself that is life-affirming.
I admire your honesty too. When I do get well, I don’t have to get out into the rat race, which is brutal, because I am 73. There are other benefits for being ill. One of them is that people are kind to you and we get more attention. Oftentimes that is not the case. I am beginning to be the one giving kindness and attention. Sometimes I make it, sometimes I don’t. But I practice, and that gives me purpose.
God bless you hard song. I love your screen name♥️
Thankyou superMNew , I saw my neurologist last week , he was surprised how well I looked , he asked how I was going on Madapar and I told him Im not taking any PD meds , Im taking do Terra suppliments designed for PD and the amazing , amazing doTerra oils , I feel so well and have absolutely no side effects at all!!
My neurologist told me that I'm not missing out on anything at all by not taking PD meds as none of them can cure or even slow PD down they can only mask the symptoms. ( and give rotten side effects ) . I really believe you are sicker on the meds than not being on them.... It took about 2 - 3 months for the toxins to work their way out of my system and it hurt a lot! But I stuck it out and wow now i feel great!
Im doing palaties as well under a physio palaties clinic aiming excercises at PD . My neurologist said I probably will still get worse eventually , I would rather get worse with out side effects. I'm really happy with how im going, I do get a tremor occasionally but my doctor said dont worry about the tremor , its the muscle movement that you should worry about. If I want tremor to dissapear I put a couple of drops of doTerra frankinsence essential oil on the back of my neck and it stops.
I just want to share with you all that there really are better alternatives out there.
Wow, moonel60! What doTerra supplements are you taking?
There are about six or eight tablets i take two of each morning and night and also magnesium 2 a day, withania two a day, if you contact or google do Terra you should be able to find out whats best for you . DDR PRIME IS ONE I take, MICROPLEX MV, ALPHA CRS+,xEO MEGA. And also magnesium deep blue tablets, and withania.
There may be an alternative to take Sinemet= levodopa/carbidopa. Very soon, when I need to replace my current supplements, I plan to take levodopa - from the mucuna pruriens plant, with EGCG from green tea and vitamin C & salmon oil. EGCG is a natural decarboxylase inhibitor, like carbidopa, but it is not easily absorbed. There is a German study that showed EGCG was best absorbed on an empty stomach at least 1/2 hour before a meal in conjunction with 200 mg vitamin C and 1,000 mg of Salmon oil.
EGCG - ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/113...
EGCG + Vitamin C & Salmon Oil =

@silverstrov Thank you!!!
My pleasure. Also, there may be an alternative to entacapone: quercetin + bromelain. Quercetin is a natural COMT inhibitor like entacapone:
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/127...
But how do you make quercetin more absorbable? By adding bromelain:
