who is parkinson
The disease is named after the English doctor James Parkinson, who published the first detailed description in An Essay on the Shaking Palsy in 1817.
Jon Palfreman’s book, "Brainstorms," opens with a chapter about James Parkinson. Like the rest of the book, well worth reading. It was just published last fall.
That book was/is EXCELLENT!!! Jon,himself, has PD. He is an excellent writer. A book you don't want to put down.
ES: "Brainstorms" really is a wonderful read, isn’t it? A great go-to reference to have on hand as you’re trying to piece things together - whether early on (as in my case) or years into your diagnosis (as other pwp I know have said). It's also been a beneficial read for the people I go to for various therapies.
Palfreman writes with clarity. He doesn't sugarcoat the uncomfortable bits, nor does he wallow. As a reporter who has himself become part of the story, he has a particular cred, no less so than when he shows some reasons for hope.
If any neurologists are reading here: it'd help your patients scads if you prescribed "Brainstorms" along with that first months' round of Sinemet at the initial diagnosis....
