Maybe there's an LSVT BIG trained physio in your area? I think it aims to benefit the brain and body in similar way to the boxing. Im in Marlborough but have found Rachel Howell in Wellington so start in a couple of weeks time. Have high hopes :)

I have heard good things about LSVT BIG. If you want to do boxing, you might be able to find a class at a gym. Just make sure it's non-contact boxing. RSB is nice because everyone there has PD & we push each other to work harder & go a bit beyound what you think you can, but boxing in general will help also. Just put your all into it.

Why should it be no contact boxing?

Well.....it doesn't have to be non contact boxing, but I think most people would prefer not to be hit in the face. We box for the big, hard & fast movements boxing training gives you.

It is a great program and our teachers in Brooklyn, New York are the best. They challenge everyone at their own level yet manage a group activity. I think there is an international Rock Solid Boxing association you can inquire of this possibility and they will assist you.

Is there a video to show what this boxing is all about?

You can find additional videos on their website or on YouTube, but here are two of my favorites that show the variety of things we do, the hard work we do, & the fun that we have & what it's all about. I've been going 8 1/2 yrs. & we've never done the same workout twice.

Good News............I emailed the Affiliate Services Director at RSB to see if there is anyone interested in possibly becoming an affiliate in NZ & she said..........

Yes we’ve had a lot of interest from New Zealand! Right now the travel is difficult, obviously, but we are working to develop online training for 2016 so we can have more international affiliates. Great things happening soon!

Punchin' Parko's is an Australian version of RSB. Has been operating for 1 year out of a top grade martial arts academy in Chatswood sydney. It is run under the auspices of Parkinson's NSW....ORiginally I was the first international affiliate of RSB but the tyrany of distance and the issue of training others in Oz forced me with the help of PNSW to start from scratch and develop our own version.. We are at the stage where we should have a Train the Trainers program starting late October. Only this week did we receive our first international PP...from NZ! He came over after being given the ok from his GP that he was medically fit and with no restrictions, we graded him (1 to 4 depending on severity of symptoms))' he had his first session later that day, had a private lesson the next day before returning to NZ. I sent a detailed report based on his grading to him which he was most impressed, and will pass it onto his PT . He will come over every 6 weeks or so to gain extra knowledge. For more details, email me at punchin.parkos@iinet.net.au. Our program is run as a not-for-profit program. We now have several top neurologists referring patients to join our PPEP Punchin Parko's Exercise Program. I know this blog should not be used for promoting ones own business etc, but I feel there are lots of people out there who might benefit from this extremely popular and well done program.

Wonderful! I hope Molly_234 sees this! I don't think you're trying to promote business, you're just trying to help PwP's have a better life & that's what my goal has been. Thanks so much for your post & thanks for caring!
