I have found that the best medicine for insomnia is EXERCISE! Don't close your mind to doing exercise, even if you are not ableto walk for more than 5 minutes, without getting tired. Try walking for whatever time you are able, every second day. In a couple of weeks you will find that you can walk for longer. That is progress! Keep doing it and see what happens to your insomnia!
I agree. A long walk preferably in sunshine. I also take klonopin, valerian and melatonin
I enjoy walking & exercise, but I have found an all-natural sleep aid, Alteril, helps me sleep deeper & for a little longer periods during the night - it contains Melatonin ...
I used a CPAP for a while but then transferred to a mouth aid which kept my jaw forward. The dentist at St.Thomas' Hospital did it and it meant I did not need to use the CPAP but it kept my tubes open. Hope this helps.
I try not to rely too much on Trazedone. Usually when I wake at 1-2am I take a 50 mg trazedone and a small sandwich bag that contains 2 ritz crackers and half slice of cheese and a small amount of grilled chicken (that I froze and has thawed by now). Trazedone lasts longer when taken with food plus the chicken has tryptophan and of course the cheese helps too. When this regime stops working I can take two trazedones with food before bed or instead of trazedone at 1am take a shot of childrens liquid benedryl (which works for about two nights). I exercise regularly too.
My husband is on a small dose of seroquel at night only for sleep, and has an oxygen concentrator with nasal cannula for his sleep apnea. I try to have him swim everyday, and get a good hour in the sunshine. He has a 3 wheel bike to ride also. Other days -- I have him meet up with a personal trainer. She can get him moving .
I've been given Trazodone (50 MG tablet) by my movement disorder specialist. I take Carbidopa-Levo ER ; Azilect and Amantadine for PD. I try not to use the sleeping aid if I don't have to, but if I do, I start out with 1/2 tablet. Sometimes even when I get plenty of exercise I have problems sleeping....I don't want to "have" to take a sleeping aid if I can help it.....I figure that I'll be taking other meds eventually, (if not for PD then for other things), and don't want to "overload" on meds.
