I'm taking sinemet five times a day. I have no energy and can't have caffeine. Any good suggestions for regaining energy. Take two walks a day, go to gym but end up falling asleep and not much energy after noon.

i am on 7 sinemet a day, plus 1 x rophinerole 8mg slow release at 9am and 1 x rophinerole 2mg normal release with the last nigghttime doses. also on Naproxen 500mg YES!! 500mg) for the pain in my hip where that stupid woman drove into me, domperidone forthe nausia caused by the above, and 50mg vitamen supplement.

there are times when i cannot lift my arms or legs when i lie on the bed.

But, alongside this, they have upped my walking needs to 7 miles a day to tryand avoid hip replacement. i had no pain in the hips before.

What I do is get up at 6 and medicate, then wait 2 hours before a 3 mile walk with Sushi, that way, meds are nearing peak effectiveness. then 1 hour siesta, 2 miles at lunchtime, and 2 miles at 4.30. for the last 2, i drive to 2 different starting places for variety, but also because

there are the same bunch of regulars who know my problem and take sushi if i need to stop for a while

if your walking is only for PD, your doc will probably only give you about 3 miles a day.

i allow myself 1 mug of cafatiere coffee when i get back from the first walk, because the deep tiredness from walk 1 absorbs most of the effects of the caffiene, and the caffiene reduces the tiredness from the meds and walk.

hope this helps a bit, but check with your Nurse or Doctor

forgot to say that if i am up anytime after 2.30, and it looks like i am not going to get back to sleep, i take an extra sinemet halfway between last and first normal doses

and if you want to know what i find to do all night, where this would have taken 10 minutes before PD, you can add an hour to that. plus there are some very friendly ladies around the internet at night offering all sorts of ..... (JUST JOKING!!!)

Have you thought about asking for a test of your Vit B12 levels to be carried out? This is linked to tiredness in many conditions and every now and then rears its ugly head in talk about Parkinson's. I would be interested to hear from anybody who has to gauge whether this might be a more general but unrecognised problem. You could always message me if you don't want to go public on this.

A few years ago one of my many doctors tested my blood for its Ferritin level. It was practically nonexistent. Now I am monitored about every 4-6 months. When it gets below 50, I spend a day receiving Ferritin through IV. A few days later I have as much energy as I can have (what with PD, etc.). This apparently is an overlooked test for many. But low Ferritin levels are associated with Restless Legs which are associated with PD. I'm not saying there's a connection, but my doctors surely do think there is. Therefore, I have been diagnosed as having Iron Deficiency Anemia, but it doesn't show up on most lab reports--unless it's specifically asked for.

I have had DBS surgery in 2012 what a relief from the shaking, anyway I have found using natural oils, help me allot, I use 100 % lavender oil for my left my cramps, I use 100 % peppermint oil for energy just a couple drops on my wrists and dabbed on my neck.........do this 3 x a day. The brand I use is Young Living Essential Oils. And yes you need to move, don't sleep to much it makes everything worse. KADIE57

Hi Kadie...and Grayland....I take 5 stalevo 200 per day ( 1 every 4 hrs.) with 1 ReQuip 8MG before bedtime...I also take several other meds for depression, anxiety, Alergies, aches and pains, and I take B12 injections every 10 days! They just tested me on many things ...I have sleep apnea, am being fitted for CPAP, and I have Asthma...I haven't started on Asthma meds yet because I have Ostioporosis and a lot of bone loss in my jaw bones....I have Low BP so I have Medorine to raise it, but I get light headed and have fallen several times...and with Osteoporosis, they fear if I fall I can beak a bone easily. I don't process B 12 in the stomach lining like I should so that is why I have to have it injected into deep muscle. I have been diagnosed over 16 years! I try to do stretches for stiffness, but can't walk far or manage housework without my lower back getting spasms...I am always tired and cat nap often...and never get to bed before 2 AM... I have an IPad and play games and chat in rooms like this with other Parkies...usually get 5 to six hours of restless sleep. The Requip made me gain a lot of weight..so they recently cut dosage to 4 MG from 8. I love this room....im normally very quiet and speak up much...tho you wouldn't know it by this one note...lol

Hi Grayland

I take Amantadine (100MG) with the first 2 of my 4 doses of Sinemet Plus and this boosts my energy levels

For the record I also take Azilect (Rasageline 2MG) with the first dose and Requip (16MG) with my evening meal - between my 3rd and 4th doses of Sinemet Plus

I have been diagnosed 10 years

Kind regards

Something like 60% of people with Parkinson's have thyroid problems. Have your doctor test your TSH level being produced by your thyroid. I used to fall asleep around 2 PM at work. Now I take one little pill a day, and as long as I get at least 6 hours of sleep per night, I am good to go all day and evening; almost like a normal (what ever that is) person.
