Split nails

I have splits that run from the nailbed to the tip of my nail. On at least one nail both sides grow at a different rate almost imperceptible.

I also have to remind my manicurist to not to trim my cuticles because then I get these little pieces of skin right behind the nail that can get sore before they dry up and fall off. —-a dr pointed out the redness behind the nails.

I get acrylic overlay… Not fake nails more like what they put on to fill-in behind wake me up as they grow out so it’s like a hard nail polish. I used to bite my nails until in my 30s. I went to try acrylic overlay because I would never show my fingers but kept them folded if my hands on a table.

I had nail splits before I began having the overlays done (the nail has to be roughened for the “gel” to adhere..but if I don’t have the hard overlay, I go back to biting them—nail polish is just another thing to bite off).

Some of my toe nails have them too.

My manicurist told me a few months ago a man he worked on also had the same problem—the only other person he remembered with the same nail condition.
