Anyone have success with Midfoot fusion? I have severe midfoot arthritis in both feet, and am in severe pain with every step. I have tried orthotics, cortisone shots, cold laser, NSAIDS, and wearing an AFO Brace.

Midfoot fusion
I think I must have midfoot arthritis, when I first started taking methotrexate it helped with the foot pain, but now, even with taking the methotrexate the foot pain has returned. Won't see my rheumatogist until next month. Hope something can be done about it.
I had a mid foot fusion done 31 years ago and it has served me well. I was 27 years old, with a diagnosis of RA 8 years prior. I was bone on bone in the left foot which caused tremendous pain and at times, I would have to stop in mid stride due to the bone on bone rubbing/locking. I chose to have the fusion done with bone harvested from my hip rather than screws. I do not regret my decision. Recovery was long. Back then, I was in a solid cast for all phases, although the cast was changed multiple times. Time in a cast was two months non weight bearing , two months weight bearing. It changed my life by allowing me to walk pain free after rehab, etc. Now there is that rob Peter to pay Paul effect of the loss of flexibility disrupts other mechanical issues, but for me, the fusion has allowed me to productive and happy for 31 years!
I was glad to see this post as I am dealing with this right now. My right foot is the one I'm having alot of pain in . Saw a foot Dr. , said to try orthotics, really no difference so then I had a cortisone shot. Not helping. He said if we could buy some more years before fusion would be best because recovery for fusion is long & difficult. After many bad days I think I will end up having the fusion sooner rather than later. I'm on pain meds for 4 separate chronic pain conditions and not helping enough. Good luck.
