Well, after my scan and stool tests they have found blood traces and the scan revealed that part of my intestines are inflamed and the Gastroentrolygist is pretty sure it is Crohn's disease but he would like a MRI scan and an Endoscopy to confirm it, I have now joined this Crohn's support group on this page.
But I do have a question, would a low FODMAP diet also work for Crohn's disease.
And can anyone recommend recipes for Crohn's

Hi. Unfortunately there is no specific diet that helps. You will find that there are some that people find following a gluten free or dairy free diet etc helps. For me its a low fat diet as high saturated fats make my symptoms worse.
During a flare it helps to have a low residue/low fibre diet as this is easier for the gut to process. But this should not be done for long periods due to being very low in nutitional value.
I know FODMAP diets help in ibs, but I would get advice from gastro team or dietician as you need to be sure you are meeting your nutritional needs. Crohns can affect the absorption of essential nutrients so it can be easy to become deficient.
I have found yogurt with a probiotic has helped me. It certainly isn’t a cure and doesn’t help everyone but probiotics do help some.

My daughter aged 15 was diagnosed with severe Crohn’s in February. She has been using Modulen IBD milk formula and this has helped her to defy expectations and achieve complete remission. Her calpro score was initially over 6000 but is now 22, with her CRP down from nearly 400 to 0.4. There is a diet plan that comes with the formula which we received from our dietician at the hospital. After a few weeks of only the milk, we now use it to make smoothies, with such things as chickpeas, soaked walnuts and fruit, as we gradually reintroduce solid food. We were due to start immunosuppressant medication but then covid hit so this was thankfully postponed and is no longer necessary. It might not work for everyone and is not for anyone looking for a quick fix as it takes discipline and patience, but worth a try and at the very least it gives the bowels a rest.
My son was diagnosed with Crohn's in May and has been on Modulen ever since. At first he had good results but he has now been in a severe flare for two weeks. Has your daughter managed to stay in remission? I'm looking for some hope that we might be able to turn this around.
Hi. I’m sorry to hear about your son. My daughter is still in remission. After the first few months on Modulen this was also combined with Pentasa (mesalazine) granules, which is an anti inflammatory medication. She hasn’t had any flare ups at all, but she is very careful about her diet, largely vegetarian and no junk foods. Does your son take anything else and is he eating normally now, or still exclusively on the formula? Let me know if I can be of any more help. All the best and I hope things turn around very soon.
Thank you for replying. My son followed the Modulife programme - 6 weeks of strict diet followed by 6 weeks with a slightly broader range of foods. No junk food, no additives etc. After 12 weeks, he was allowed to open up to a wider range of foods but we have maintained a diet without processed foods and additives. I had read that a plant-based diet might be beneficial but it was on day six of this that his flare started and he has been having problems ever since. I'm wondering whether we should start the Modulife plan again from the start, but obviously he's not keen on this. There's only so much chicken, potato and rice that you can eat!
Hi. Yes that diet wasn’t very exciting. Unfortunately we also have the added disadvantage of an eating disorder so my daughter won’t even eat chicken rice or potatoes! We did manage to work through most of the other stuff on that food list and only lentils caused a temporary problem. Have you tried rolling back the food to before the flare up? Do you think a particular food triggered it? You’ll probably have to go down the medication route for maintenance as we did. We went for the mesalazine as it was the least bad option as far as we were concerned and thankfully we have had no problems with it at all apart from maybe a dry mouth. Certainly try to avoid the steroids and the biologics if you can. This is such a horrible and stressful road to be on isn’t it? Fingers crossed for you. X
