Taking Biologics

Anybody on Remicade or Humira? Pros, cons, personal experiences? I’m on prednisone and imuran right now but my doctor doesn’t think it’s working as I just started tapering off the prednisone and I’m already getting my symptoms back. He wants to do the biologicals with me now and just curious what people have experienced. The side effects are scary haha, but I feel like it’ll probably be the best choice for me. Humira is self injected and Remicade is an infusion, anybody tried either? Just weighing my options and am curious

Hi Iv tried both. Remicade means you are tied to going to hospital every 8 - 12 weeks (depending on your regime) Humira you can do at home. Both worked fantastically and I was in remission, unfortunately after a few years on them I develop skin reactions

I've had both. I was on Humira for a year but it didn't work so switched to Infliximab (Remsima). It helped to some degree for a while but now after 18 months it is not working and we are considering what to do next. Humira is easier to manage as you do it yourself. Good luck!

I have been on Humira for 4 years. I have no side effects at all. Because I have been in Humira my Crohn's has been quiet and allowed me the opportunity to get rid of my ileostomy for a BCIR ostomy. I credit Humira for that.

I was on Remicade. It worked brilliantly for 6 months. Then I developed antibodies. I started on Humira 2 months ago I’ve not had any side effects with either. The Humira is so much easier as it’s a pen and you self inject ( very easy). I am not sure the Humira is working for me I will have to see my next stool and blood samples. It does sound daunting when you read the side effects. I have days when I think what the hell am I doing to myself. Then I spend a few hours on the loo and I think ... without this I’d be worse. Let me know how you are doing.
