Today i have received my official diagnosis of ulcerative colitis .i have been on prednisolone suppositories for two years on and off.I am allergic to Mesalazine so that was of no use.am am now on prednisolone tablets 6 a day 30mg for two weeks then reducing 5mg every two weeks. they are looking at a autoimmune medication that could take up to 3 moths to work.

my diet makes no difference, apart from chocolate makes me quite ill and i don't really like dairy . I have a good well balanced diet.

I also have klinefelters syndrome, which i am attempting to see if this is at all connected.

Hi, I have had ulceritive colitis for 27 years, 20 of which 5 different docs told me it was Ibs. For 7 years I've been taking mezalazane. But still had much pain, every 4 months been laid up with constant sickness for 4 days, flares the doc said. I came to north Cyprus, was very ill. My brother in law sent me to his cousin, a bowel specialist. He told me not to drink milk, tho ice cream, yoghurt, even cream cakes was ok. Also don't eat strong cheese (Edam ok) don't eat green leafy veg, cabbage, leeks, spinach etc. Eat a banana every day. 6 months now I've had no pain, no sickness. It's changed my life, I feel like a new woman, I've got my life back. Something so simple, yet my consultant in uk never told me any of this!!! Really hope it helps you too. Best of luck.

I have colitis went to see a food therapist who arranged allergy testing for me, had to pay but it was worth it, found out which foods had been upsetting me. I do not take any medication for it, just watch what I eat. Wheat being the main thing to avoid for me.

Hi,Welcome to the forum. IBD is an autoimmune disease, however they have identified a number of genes which when are 'switched on' a person develops an IBD. please keep me updated with what you find out.

autoimmune meds take up to 12 weeks to get to a therapeutic level, but hopefully they will help you.

all the best x

I think I will get a preprinted set made up. St Marks at Northwick Park in Harrow,NW London, are the worldwide centre of excellence for diseases of the bowel, colon and digestive tract including fistulae. They were named in a competition as Tops for Bottoms. They will see anyone on a referral from either a giconsultant or indeed a GP. They will give advice to any GI consultant, on the phone by telephone or by any other technology they can. So if you are happy with your GI consultant (and feel at ease with them, why not suggest a consultant to consultant chat). Otherwise contact them yourself. It is your body, your disease, your future and your decision
