How do I keep my ears warm?

If I get earache then I'm in pain for hours. I can't wear earmuffs because they fall off as I'm running. Have been wearing my trapper hat which is keeping the wind away from my ears but is also making me too hot now I'm running the longer distances. I need something that'll cover my ears but keep my head uncovered. Any ideas? :-) x

Saw a lady out running the other day and she had -not sure what you call them looked like snood (if you where a child in the 80's you mat remember them) but it just wrapped around her head over her ears (like a woolly hat without the top bit) it was neon pink and seemed to be doing the job- it was snowing at the time!

I've got a Craghoppers softshell men's hat. It's quite compact and windproof although it does look like a swim cap! I usually take it off half way through a run so it may be too warm for you.

The other option is a Buff which is basically a thin tube you can wear as a beanie or a headband or round your neck. buffwear.co.uk/ways-to-wear

The original ones are quite dear but most outdoors shops have their own version and TK Maxx sometimes has them.

You can get running headbands that are quite wide to cover your ears but leave the head exposed; ideal solution for you! I have a karrimore one for chilly days but when a hat/cap would be too hot. Here is a link to a selection to give you an idea runnersneed.com/headbands/a...

Yes, I've got a karrimore one and it's very effective - it's not very often that I want a hat on for the whole of my run but the headband is great for keeping my ears cosy and comfortable.

A couple of folk have mentioned buffs / Snoods. I spotted NEXT having a sale and got a Snood for £6. (I really got it to be ready for next winter) To be honest, I think it's probably a bit bulky for what you want but thought I'd mention it anyway.

A Buff is brilliant for this job, if you check out their website you will be amazed at all the ways a simple piece of material in the shape of a loop can be worn and used. Lightweight too so will pop into a small pocket if you get to warm. Sports Direct had them for about £4 a few weeks ago.

Check out Buff Demonstration on You Tube all will become clear as to what a Buff is for those who don't know.

I've got a headband thingy, it covers my ears and keeps my hair out of my eyes but doesn't cover my head. It's the same sort of fabric as my running tights, so not very thick but definitely does the job. I think it's from Running Breeze.

A friend of mine had the same problem (lot of running by the coast) and swears by "earbags", sort of clip on earmuffs. She doesn't have any problems keeping them on but I've not tried them myself.

I used to get earrache really easy even if only a slight breeze. It stopped when using ipod with earphones!
